Zerlin is a son of Berlin, who under Gerco Schroder has contributed greatly to the Netherlands' success in show jumping over the past years. Zerlin is out of the ster mare Tatjana Bo, a daughter of the preferent jumper sire Concorde. Zerlin's granddam is the preferent prestatie mare Gcubertha (s.Ladalco). The dam-line continues with the proven Stal Roelofs combination Joost x Abgar xx out of the Wagner mare Nubertha.

As a three-year-old, Zerlin was selected for the fall 2007 performance test. However, he returned home prior to completing the test. Over time, the stallion developed very well and experienced his first successes under Jos Lansink, which included several clear rounds and placings at the 1.50/1.55m level. Zerlin was then turned over to Brazil's Modolo Zanotelli, who is currently excelling with the stallion. Last weekend, the combination finished third in the CSI5* Athina Onassis Horse Show in St. Tropez. Their other good results include placing second in the 1.55m at the three-star in Norten-Hardenberg and second in the 1.55m of the Global Champions Tour at the five-star in Antwerp. At the same venue, the duo also won the 1.50m. In addition, they placed second in the 1.45/1.50m at the five-star in Miami, Florida, also part of the Global Champion Tour; and captured the 1.50m in 's-Hertogenbosch. Zerlin was bred by Ad de Jong of Wouwse Plantage and is registerd to Egbert Schep of Tull en ‘t Waal. Zerlin meets KWPN radiographic and respiratory requirements. His jumping breeding value is 157 with 56% reliability.
