The inspection season is in full swing, and the first champions have been honored. Now we’re looking forward to the 2015 KWPN Championships. With its new format, the event boasts an optimum venue for competitors and an enjoyable program for spectators. Mark it on your calendar: August 10 – 15 at the National Equestrian Center in Ermelo!

Two Championships on Monday

This year again, Monday will kick off with the first two championships. The first is for five-year-old eventers. However, four-year-old eventers will also have their turn in the ring, where they’ll perform a short ability test, which is informative for riders and registered parties alike. The test also provides a platform for horses to be selected for the KWPN Eventing Horse Sale at Military Boekelo.

Young Driving Horses

The second championship on Monday is for young driving horses. The purpose of this championship is to evaluate the talent of young driving horses in the singles test. The competition is divided into two divisions: one for four- and five-year-old horses, and one for six- and seven-year-old horses. More and more KWPN horses are making international news in this discipline of the sport. Furthermore, the championship is used to scout for young driving talent so that these horses can be seen by the right people, who can properly advance their training.

Isah- and Pavo Cup

The Isah Cup also kicks off on Monday. With the expanded main field, combinations will have a large jumping arena and a large warm-up ring in which to perform. These facilities are designed to foster optimum performance in the young jumpers. More excitement follows on Tuesday with the four- and six-year-olds. The Pavo Cup begins on Tuesday with the semi-final for four-year-olds, followed by the semi-final for five-year-olds on Wednesday. The Pavo Cup competition has been entirely redesigned, a process that began with the pre-selections in which new tests were implemented and more attention was placed on rider education.Changes have likewise been made to the semi-final: the jury will now pay even closer attention to the horse’s natural talent and look for a pleasing picture of a horse performing optimally without pressure from the rider.

Breed Class Central

Friday, August 14, is dedicated to breed classes. On this day, the best dressage-, jumper- and Gelder mares as well as the best foals from these breeding directions will be presented to the jury. Returning to the program is the championship for keur- and elite mares ages 4 – 7 from the dressage and jumper breeding directions. The three-year-old mares in the “queen class,” however, are always the highlight of the day, with the most eye-catching mares in the country performing in the ring. The most beautiful mares and foals, the best young sport horses, delicious food and beverage, and fun with fellow horse enthusiasts at the Netherlands’ premier equestrian facility: you’ll find all this and more at the KWPN Championships!

National Harness Horse Day

National Harness Horse Day, the harness horse festival of the year, will wrap up the KWPN Championships. With an array of inspection classes, competitions for breeding stallions and top sport mares, and numerous exhibitions featuring the proud harness horse, the day offers fun and excitement for all.
