Valegro, the two-time Olympic champion and KWPN ambassador par excellence, will give a farewell performance for the Dutch public at the KWPN Stallion Show. On Saturday evening, February 4th, his rider Charlotte Dujardin will show spectators in the Brabanthallen why “Blueberry” is her horse of a lifetime.

On Monday, August 15th, Charlotte Dujardin rode a world-class freestyle on Valegro (Negro out of Maifleur keur s.Gershwin) at Brazil’s Centro Nacional de Hipismo in Rio. Valegro’s score of 93.857% confirmed the talent of the horse bred by Joop and Maartje Hanse of Burgh Haamstede in Zeeland province; and in a repeat of London, the combination captured the Olympic title. Afterwards, the two-time Olympic champion explained in an emotional speech that “Blueberry” would retire from the sport: “He’s 14 years old and has already won everything. I want everyone to remember him as the great horse he is, so I do not wish  to continue with the competitions. What the past few years have shown is that he wasn’t only an amazing horse for me: he has fans around the world. We also want to give them the opportunity to see him again in action. Valegro bid his official farewell to the British public at Olympia, but now it’s time for Valegro to give a farewell performance to his native soil. “It was heartwarming how many nice comments I received from the Netherlands after our success in Rio. Valegro deserves it too because he’s such a special horse … He’s not just an incredibly good dressage horse; he also has a heart of gold. We still have a very good connection with his breeders and, in any case, are enthusiastic about the quality and rideability of KWPN horses. We think the KWPN Stallion Show is a wonderful podium for Valegro’s farewell in the Netherlands.” Valegro’s performance at the KWPN Stallion Show will be his only on Dutch soil this year. In a demonstration, Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin will show why this incredible mover managed to break all records in the international arena and stole the hearts of many dressage enthusiasts. The special performance is a tribute to Valegro and Charlotte Dujardin, as well as to those who contributed to their great success. The two-time olympic champion and her mount will say goodbye to the Dutch public in a beautiful arena with ambiance.
