Mathijs van Asten and Hotspot had a double win today. Not only could they win the day competition, they were also able to secure the Blom Stallion Competition 2017 in the Lclass.

The promising son of Hors la Loi II really impressed his rider: “Also in this entourage Hotspot understands exactly what I expect from him and did really well!” You win some, you lose some. That certainly went for the leader of the standings in the L class, Highway M TN (Eldorado van de Zeshoek out of Zelana PROK by Chellano Z, breeder Peter Verdellen from Horst) with Patrick van der Schans. After winning the classes in Zuidbroek and Kronenberg, where the stallion received very high marks for his superb jumping qualities, luck was not on his side this final competition. Highway really reacted a lot tot he difficult circumstances which costed him the leading position. “What a shame, he really deserved better”, said his rider afterwards.

Earned win

Nothing could be said about the excellent achievements of the KWPN approved stallion Hotspot (Hors la Loi II out of Hermione de la Pomme by Nabab de Rêve, breeder Dingen family from  Sint-Oedenrode) with Mathijs van Asten. The striking stallion is very rideable, jumps with reflexes and good use of the body. Also in the jump-off to win the day competition, the pair could set the best result. “My goal was to just ride a nice and smooth clear round. The win in the competition was already a fact. But he did so well! Halfway through the jump-off course I felt that he really deserved to win this round as well, so I decided to go for it and make the last turn quite short. And this was enough to win them both, how great is that!”, says Van Asten enthusiastic. He’s got high expectations for the stallion owned by Joop Aaldering, Kyra Swelheim and Joop van Uytert. “Hotspot is a very promising horse with a super attitude. He is fresh, got lots of blood and is really careful. In the warm up, he was quite sharp and during the prize giving he almost ditched me”, he laughs. But if he has to jump, he is always there and really does his best, even in this impressive environment. Hotspot makes himself bigger, not smaller, I think that is a very nice quality.”

Hanley second

In the final standings, the nicely cantering and well jumping KWPN approved Hanley (Tornesch out of Charisma elite EPTM-spr by Cornet Obolensky, breeder M.C.G. van den Oetelaar from De Moer) with  Caroline Müller came in second place. He canters with a lot of balance and jumps with lots of push and athletic ability. In the final standings, Hanley was just in front of the sharp, careful KWPN-approved stallion Cohinoor VDL (Cornet Obolensky out of Sophia by Stakkato, breeder H. Ramsbrock from Menslage) under James Billington.
