On the final day of Horses and Dreams in Hagen Germany, the two Dutch pairs, Marc Houtzager with  Sterrehof’s Baccarat and Wout-Jan van der Schans with Capetown were in great form. Marc Houtzager, the new Dutch Champion, came in fifth with Padinus-offspring Baccarat. Member of the Stallion Selection committee jumping, Wout-Jan van der Schans rode Capetown to the ninth place.

The win in the Grand Prix of Hagen went to Emanuele Gaudiano with Caspar, a son of the KWPN-approved keur-stallion Berlin. The preferent stallion Mr. Blue was the sire of the number two, Saphyr des Lacs that was ridden by Austrian rider Christian Rhomberg. The best KWPN result came from Marc Houtzager, who lost exactly three seconds to the winner with Sterrehof’s Baccarat (Padinus out of Lazura by Silvio, breeder J.H.H.W. Belt from Beilen) which put him in fifth.

Strong dam-line
It was only last weekend when Marc Houtzager was proclaimed Dutch Champion with his top-horse Sterrehof’s Calimero (s. Quidam de Revel), but also Baccarat went well at the championships. The son of Padinus, that is very close related to Henk van der Pol’s well-known Grand Prix horse Willink, jumped to fourth place, but because of the fact that Houtzager had two horses in the championship, that result was scratched. The quality of jumping is well anchored in the dam-line of Sterrehof’s Baccarat. This line also brought Eurohill’s Africa (s. Guidam) ridden by Michael Greeve, Emile Hendrix’ Finesse (s.Voltaire), the KWPN-stallion Kigali (s.Wolfgang) and many other successful jumping horses.

Mistake in Jump-off
Capetown (Oklund out of Santha by Carlino, breeder G.F. van Os from Uden) and Wout-Jan van der Schans were again in great form after their third place in the 1.50m class a day earlier. After a well-ridden clear round the pair had one mistake in the jump-off. Capetowns sire is the keur-stallion Oklund, that passed away too early. We see his offspring more frequently on the international result lists. Dams sire Carlino is a Holstein stallion that was accepted for performance testing with KWPN. Carlino is a son of Caretino out of the well-known Holstein dam-line 474a. VDL Groep Verdi TN, Bubalu VDL and Vingino also emerge from this dam-line.
