British rider William Funnell took his third win in the prestigious Lacom Derby of Eindhoven, but KWPN’s Dha Dha and Zomerfee van de Broekkant came really close. Eindhoven resident Bianca Schoenmakers had a sad mistake on the last oxer, which costed her the win.

William Funnell went round seemingly effortless with home-bred Billy Buckingham (s.Billy Congo). They only had two time-penalties. Some real horsemanship was shown by the British rider who also won this class in 1995 and in 2008 and took second in 2014.

Tiger Dha Dha

For Dutch rider Bianca Schoenmakers CSI Eindhoven is almost the highlight of the year. Born and raised in Eindhoven, as a kid she lived in Tongelre, the district where the Karpendonkse Plas is at. Her nine-year-old mare Dha Dha (Douglas out of Zsa Zsa by Roven xx, breeder Hans Dings from Heeze) fought as a tiger on the difficult course. Schoenmakers had obviously studied the derby well. The chestnut came not even close to any of the Derby-fences. It seemed Schoenmakers and Dha Dha would keep the zero on the scoreboard, but at the second last oxer, it just went wrong. Second place was all that was left.

Winners of 2015

The 2015 winners, Joy Lammers and Zomerfee van de Broekkant (Oklund out of Passiefee by Concorde, breeder Sipke Dokter from Tzummarum) went round impressively but had two small mistakes. Their good time put them in third place. Swedish rider Erika Lickhammer and KWPN horse Bonaire (Vigo d'Arsouilles out of  Viva sport(spr) by Corrado I, breeders Gebroeders Van Helmond from Asten) did really well and got fourth.

KWPN-stallion Fire runner-up

Earlier that day, the KWPN-approved stallion Fire (Vleut out of Britt by Namelus R, breeder Kees de Vries from Midwolde) also had great success. In the final of the Youngster Tour for six- and seven-year-olds, Fire, ridden by Rob Heyligersm, finished in second place. Only the Belgian rider Karel Cox could beat his time, but then again on a KWPN horse: Fortuna (Nabab de Reve out of Penelope ster pref prest by Zeus, breeder E.M.J. Jaspers-Faassen from Swalmen).
