Yesterday, he already was one of the most outstanding stallions and today he was lord and master in the championships finale: the athletic, well-bred and impressively jumping Cornet Obolensky-son Kannan Jr.

Seven stallions were invited to the championships round, including four that proved to have that little bit extra on Wednesday. Today, the sons of Don Diablo HX, F-One USA and Harley VDL were added to this company. Crowdpleaser Kannan Jr (Cornet Obolensky out of Van Meta ster sport-spr PROK by Quick Star) of breeders Wobbe and Marietje Kramer and co-owner Sjaak van der Lei, leaves both in pedigree, conformation and jumping talent little to be desired. “This well-developed stallion has jumped convincingly in both the first and second-round viewing and displayed lots of power. A genetic masterpiece, as a product of the top progenitors Cornet Obolensky x Quick Star and son of the 1.45m jumper mare Van Meta and grandson to the full sister of superb stallion Kannan,” said an enthusiastic chairman of the selection committee jumper stallions Cor Loeffen.

Good company

He got some strong competition, as powerhouse Karaldo (Harley VDL out of Waldine stb pref by Chin Chin, bred/owned by Henk and Andreas Barenkamp) of co-owner VDL Stud was elected vice champion. “This appealing, longlined stallion canters with a lot of impression and excited us with his unlimited ability, carefulness and athleticism. Furthermore, he comes out of a damline that has produced many sporthorses.” Karaldo is bred out of the half-sister of the Grand Prix jumper Seraldo (s.Corland) and is related to the KWPN-approved stallion Graziano (s.Baltic VDL). In third place we saw the athletic Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve-son Key West (out of Zanory T keur prest by Phin Phin) of breeder Roelof Bril and co-owner Wiet ten Brinke. This half-brother of Roelof’s international 1.50m horse Dizzy Lizzy left a lasting impression in both rounds with his jumping skills, showing a great technique and impression from the ground.

Complete stallions

The out of the Grand Prix mare Wimette ster sport-spr (s.Karandasj) bred Don Diablo HX-descendant Kardinaal HX of Hendrix Stables, combines a solid conformation with a lot of jumping quality. This and his interesting pedigree, brought him the fourth place, right before the powerful jumper Kartouche (Baltic VDL out of Ultravola ster pref prest PROK by Baloubet du Rouet, bred by H.L.J. Kessels) of  VDL Stud and Willy Bourgondiën, the athletic Kobalt (Modesto out of Abersinaa ster by Calido I, bred by Sietse van der Meer) of Iekje van der Meer and the scopey F-One USA-son Kwik van de Zietfort (out of Fem-Atoil sport-spr by Calvino Z, bred by M.J. Smits out of Nederhemert) of Joop van Uytert and Paul Schockemöhle.
