The KWPN has reclaimed its top positions in the studbook rankings. The Dutch bred horses not only lead in both jumping and dressage, but the first place in the eventers is unprecedented for our studbook. What a success for KWPN breeders!

Verdades (Florett AS from Liwilarda ster prest v.Goya, breeder P. Crum from Herveld) is the best performing KWPN dressage horse. The silver medalist of the WEG and the World Cup Final in Paris closes his season with the first place in the world rankings with his rider Laura Graves. The Gribaldi son Unee BB (out of Ilarichta keur pref v.Dageraad, breeder J.J.H. Spronck from Berg en Terblijt) did good business under his rider Jessica von Bredow-Werndl. Despite the fact that the gelding did not appear in the ring after May, he occupies twelfth place and thus counted as second KWPN horse. A fraction fewer points and thus a place lower is for the KWPN-bred and approved stallion Blue Hors Zack. The son of Rousseau (out of Orona ster pref perst IBOP-dr v.Jazz, breeder B. Wilschut from Bosschenhoofd) showed himself well this year with a top score of 82% in the Freestyle of Aachen and participation in the WEG in Tryon as a result. Also Jessica von Bredow-Werndl’s second horse, Zaire-E (Son de Niro out of Tara elite pref prest PROK v.Jazz, breeder Stoeterij Empelaer from Lage Mierde), made an important contribution. With continuous top 5 placings and the victory in Frankfurt, she added some important points to the total (place 18). The KWPN-recognized stallion Cennin (Son de Niro out of Tara elite pref prest PROK v.Jazz, breeder Stoeterij Empelaer of Lage Mierde) is in 21st place. With Madeleine Witte-Vrees, he made a lot of progress this year, which resulted in the sixth place at the World Cup Final in Paris and participation in Aachen and Tryon. Last KWPN'er who counts for the rankings dressage is the Buriël KH (Osmium from Ronja K.H. ster pref perst by Krack C, breeder P. Bakker from Oterleek). The dark bay scored high all season with victories in Cappeln and Compiègne and recently a nice eighth place in the Special at the World Equestrian Games.

Three jumpers in top-10

In the showjumping division, the KWPN horses stand far out from the rest. No less than three of the six counting horses are in the top 10 of the individual rankings, including the leader Zinius. Under Harrie Smolders, the son of Nabab de Rêve (from Winia van 't Vennehof by Kannan, breeder Mario Everse) gets one clear round after another, which resulted in victories in Mechelen, Bordeaux and London. Fifth individually stands Explosion W (Chacco Blue out of Uarina vb prest sport-jump v.Baloubet du Rouet, breeder: W. Wijnen of Berlicum). Ben Maher stayed clear with him in the Grand Prix’ of Paris, Chantilly, London and Rome, that he managed to win. Bintang II bred by Edward Bleekman from Devon, England, has been contributing for many years to the success of the KWPN. Under Laura Renwick, the son of Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve (from Orlalyn v.Orlando) jumps convincingly which results in top rankings in Arnhem, Ascona, Dinard, Lier and Vilamoura. Eddie Blue (s.Zirocco Blue VDL from Silvana keur s.Marlon, breeder J. Honcoop from Chaam) finished in 12th. Place. Thanks to his faultless jump-off under Devin Ryan, the American team won gold at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon. But also in Aachen and Paris the powerhoude jumper was able to impress. Former rankings-leader Admara (Padinus out of Somara ster by Murano, breeder: A. van Nuland from Nistelrode) is the 5th KWPN horse who helped the studbook to the top position. Nowadays under the saddle of Carlos Enrique Lopez Lizararo, she won rounds in Leipzig and St. Tropez, and she convinced in the final of the WEG in Tryon which she finished in fifth place. The last horse that earned points for the KWPN was L'Esprit-daughter California (out of Olivia elite pref prest sport-spr PROK v.Libero H, breeders J. Dunnewind from Ommen and G. van Beesten from Witharen) both in the winter and summer season convincing and scored victories in La Coruña and Miami.

Eventers on one!

The Dutch bred event horses surprised this year by taking first place in the final rankings, in front of the Irish Sport Horse studbook that traditionally takes the lead. More and more KWPN horses are successful in this branch of sport, resulting in no less than three KWPN’s in the top 5 of the WBFSH ranking. Highest ranked KWPN horse, with a second place in the individual rankings, is last year’s Boekelo-winner Cekatinka (sport-sgw s.King Kolibri out of Katinka ster prest s.Julio Mariner xx, breeder: W. Greve in Haaksbergen). With top-5 rankings in Wiesbaden and Aachen, she closed the season in Tryon with the eighth position individually under Tim Price. In a beautiful fourth place we find Allstar B (Ephebe for Ever out of Narenca B stb s.Ekstein, breeder Mr. FAJ van der Burg from Berkel en Rodenrijs) the trump card of Rosalind Canter who recently won individual and team gold at the World Equestrian Games. Earlier this year the duo was already 3rd in Badminton.

In fifth place we find that other top-horse of Rosalind Canter: the Guidam-daughter Zenshera (out of Telvera s.Matterhorn, breeder: J.Morsink from Wierden). Previously he was second in Millstreet and third in Luhmühlen. And also in Pau, Belton and Chatsworth he finished in the top 7. Zagreb (Perion out of Renera stb from Nagano, breeder H.J. Leyser from Someren) is also in British hands. With Alexander Bragg he was fifth in the very tough event of Pau, second in Millstreet, third in Blenheim and he won the 3* of Jardy. Good for 15th position. The ten-year-old Deniro Z, bred by J. Zilverberg from Hoogeveen (from Zonne Trend stb v.French Buffet xx), also had a constant season. With American Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp he made the switch to the 3* and 4* level this year, resulting in top-10 rankings in Raeford, Tryon (test event), Wiesbaden and Luhmühlen. Kitty King convinced again this year with Ceylor L.A.N. The son of Veron (from Winanda LAN ster sport-spr v.Ahorn, breeder R. Lycklama a Nijeholt from Workum) hardly competed last year but with two fourth places in Chatworth and Luhmühlen and the sixth in Belton, he delivers an important contribution to the total number this year.
