The American rider Laura Graves took again second place in the World Cup Final Dressage with her KWPN horse Verdades. The pair received a fantastic score of 87.179% in Gothenburg.

Just like in the Grand Prix, the final went to Isabell Werth with Weihegold OLD (by Don Schufro). The German rider won her fifth World Cup title. The Florett As-son Verdades (out of Liwilarda ster by Goya, breeder P. Crum from Herveld) won the silver, just like in 2017 and 2018.

First 10

Laura Graves and Verdades earned the first 10 of the day for their half-pass. The two-tempi’s and the pirouettes were beautiful, but it was just not enough to take the win to America. "It is only about a few points, it was so close together on the podium," Laura Graves looks back. “That actually makes it more exciting. I was very happy with Verdades today, he was super.” Whether the 17-year-old gelding will still be going to the Tokyo Olympics next year, his rider takes by the day: “Every fall I wait until he tells me what we’re going to do. This year will be no exception; he then gets a moment's rest. If he indicates that it has been enough, I will not take him anymore."

Personal record

The KWPN-recognized stallion Blue Hors Zack (Rousseau out of Orona ster pref perst of Jazz, breeder B. Wilschut of Bosschenhoofd) came in fourth with a personal record. Daniel Bachmann Andersen scored 85.468% with the stallion, who showed a nice and active test.

Apache is well in form

The best Dutch result was achieved by Emmelie Scholtens, who finished in eighth place with the KWPN-approved Apache (UB40 out of Tolanda elite pref perst PROK by Krack C, breeder A. van der Koppel from Wadenoijen). The pair scored 80.782%. "Apache felt more relaxed than the first day," said Emmelie Scholtens. "It is something, when you enter the arena here. I started off really well and I really enjoyed myself. He can cope with it now, I could see that now once again. Apache is well in form at the moment. I can really think 'come on, let’s go' and I see on my score sheet that judges appreciate that. We trust each other more and more. You have to do it in the ring and we can do that now."

Dream Boy in top 10

With a score of 80.286%, Hans Peter Minderhoud and GLOCK’s Dream Boy N.O.P. (Vivaldi out of Resia elite PROK by Ferro, breeder Tim Coomans from Oud-Beijerland) finished in tenth place. "I was really disappointed with the piaffe, that was really not good. The same thing happened in London. But at the last World Cup shows in Mechelen, Amsterdam and Den Bosch he was not like this at all, there he just kept on going in the piaffe. He now gets a little rest first and then we head towards the observations for the European Championships. I feel that a few percent can easily be added. "

Judy Reynolds and Vancouver K (Jazz from Phantasia by Ferro, breeder G. Korver from Harmelen) finished 11th, just behind Dream Boy. The Irish combination scored 79.350%.
