Oberyn Red Viper ZL spectacular top lot on day 2 of Borculo Elite Foal Auction
Expectations were high beforehand and completely met by Oberyn Red Viper ZL (Blue Hors Romanov out of Zolena elite EPTM-(dr) sport-(dr) PROK from Sir Sinclair). On the second day of the Borculo Elite Foal Auction, the spectacular colt bred by Coen Kerbert that excels at model, movement as well as pedigree, changed hands to Eugène Reesink for € 56,000 after a fierce bidding duel. It was entirely this jubilee edition befitting that Oberyn Red Viper ZL’s dam, two-time WC mare Zolena, was sold at the Borculo Elite Foal Auction fifteen years ago.
Other excellent movers from iron-cast dam lines also proved tremendously popular. Born out of KWPN stallion Dorado’s sister and one of the best Dutch dam lines, the sturdy colt Orlando (Kingston Blue Hors out of Itrichta Van De Westen elite IBOP-(dr) PROK from Apache, bred by C. Kikkert from Den Burg) collected € 36,000. Also instigating some fierce bidding from interested buyers, the excellent filly Olivia Marein E (Blue Hors Zackerey out of Jacky Marein E elite EPTM-(dr) D-OC from Charmeur, bred by G.C. van Eck from Linde) eventually had auctioneer Frederik De Backer’s hammer fall at € 22,000. A substantial part of the foals was sold in the range between € 10,000 and € 20,000. They were headed by also KWPN registered Olivia JS (bred by mrs. Schouten from Alkmaar). This striking Glamourdale filly out of the strongly breeding dam that Navarra (elite pref prest PROK from Godfather) is, was sold for an excellent € 19,000.
Several foals auctioned at the PSC Lichtenvoorde accommodation were acquired by loyal Borculo Elite Foal Auction customers. Five were sold to Germany. Other foals fell into the hands of buyers from Denmark, Great Britain and Belgium. A lot of interested parties from abroad, for example from Australia, gladly took the opportunity to make their real-time online bid. This novelty led to a winning bid on four foals, including the filly Olivita O (Fontaine TN out of Ilita O elite IBOP-(dr) PROK from Bordeaux, bred by P. Oosterbosch from Wintelre) that was sold for € 14,000. The foals were sold for the substantial average of € 10,500.
