Lunging in Ermelo was on the program last Tuesday for the dressage stallions selected for the second round viewing. The performances, that were broadcasted live, went well.

The stallions were presented by their own trainers in two arenas. “That went a lot better than last year. There is room for improvement, but in general we were able to judge the stallions very well today ”, says Bert Rutten.

Walk and balance
One of the points that can provide good insights while lunging is the walk. “We have clearly paid attention to the walk and lunging is also very suitable for that. You can judge the stallion in the most relaxed way possible, especially by entering the arena and the extra rounds in the walk at the end. We also look at how the stallions move in balance, and how they develop with more positieve tension through the side reins. In most cases, the general impression of the stallions has been confirmed today, there were a number of stallions that were beter than expected or that made a less strong impression today. It is interesting for us as a stallion selection committee to see the stallions one more time and it is a few weeks after the first round viewing, which is also perfect for us. As a result, we have them well in mind."

Two stallions were absent, with a veterinary attest, and the lunging of two stallions was stopped. They may return to Ermelo on February 1st, so that they can also be judged on the lunge prior to the second round viewing.
