The Pavo Cup has been an established name for already 25 years. The young horse competition is known within and across the borders. Many successful dressage horses have started their career at one of these competitions. In the studio this impressive feat was celebrated.

Johan Hamminga has been involved in this prestigious competition as a member of the jury for years. “The Pavo Cup is of great importance both nationally and internationally. The competition does not only produce lots of information about breeding, but it also enables the riders to put their stallions in the spotlight. Last but not least, they form the basis for the selection for World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses. Horses such as TC Athene and Desperado, who won the Pavo Cup in their youth, are the diamonds of our breeding. These horses are currently active at the highest level. Upfront, it is almost impossible to assess whether a young horse will make it to the Grand Prix, that is influenced my so many aspects. However, the test, that have been modified over the years, provide a lot of information about the rideability, balance, posture, how it responds to rider’s aids and of course the quality of movement.”

Aart Freriks emphasizes how the partnership between Pavo and the KWPN enhances each other. “The Pavo Cup is an institute, like the ABN Amro tennis tournament and the KLM Dutch Open. The Pavo Cup is a platform for Dutch breeders and riders to put their horses on display. We are delighted to be able to make a contribution to it.”

This was again underlined by KWPN Director Piet Peters and he thanked Pavo with a replica of the bronze statue of playful foals, the original can be found in the KWPN garden.
