Two weeks ago we announced that Kjento is the absolute main supplier of the KWPN dressage foals born in 2020. This week, we will dive into the KWPN Database in search of the main supplier of the showjumping foals born last year. More than 10,500 foals were born in 2020, of which more than 5,000 were jumping foals.

The top 5 sires of the jumping foals born last year are as follows:

1. Grandorado TN with 215 foals
2. Hardrock Z with 159 foals
3. Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve with 133 foals
4. Poker de Mariposa TN with 127 foals
5. Carrera VDL with 124 foals

Total number of stallions
In total the stallions in the top 5 have 758 foals which is more than 15% of the total number of KWPN-registered jump foals. This is 2% more than last year. Last year, 501 different stallions were responsible for the paternity of KWPN-registered jumper foals.
Of these 501 stallions, 390 registered 1 to 10 foals. 60 stallions registered 11 to 25 foals, 31 stallions 26 to 50 foals, 14 stallions 51 to 100 foals, and 6 stallions 100 foals or more. The stallions that produced 1 to 10 offspring account for the largest group of foals. They account for almost 1,100 foals. Compared to the dressage foals, the jumping breeders use many more different stallions.

Grandorado TN
Grandorado TN (Eldorado van de Zeshoek out of Charmieque elite EPTM IBOP PROK by Carolus II, breeders M. Rietberg and D.J. Verhoeven from Holten) has bred 215 foals. This puts the ten-year-old as a newcomer in this ranking in first place. In 2020 the stallion won the VHO Trophy at the KWPN Stallion Show.

Hardrock Z
The licensed stallion Hardrock Z (Heartbreaker out of Carte Blanche Z by Carthago, breeder Horsestud Thijs from Maaseik), is in second place in this ranking with 159 foals. Hardrock Z was a competitor at the WC in Caen and at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro under the Venezuelan Emanuel Andrade.

Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve
The preferent stallion Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve (Narcos II by Olympia van de Krekebeke out of Laudanum, breeder R. Vets from Lier) is in third place in the ranking with 133 foals. Under Roelof Bril he has achieved many good international placings. He finished third in the Grand Prix of Vienna and third in the Grand Prix of Birmingham, both at 1.60m level. The now 25-year-old preferent stallion still appears to be very popular among breeders.

Poker de Mariposa TN
Poker de Mariposa TN is the only stallion in this ranking that is not KWPN-approved or recognised and is the youngest stallion. The six-year-old stallion dropped from the top position last year to fourth place. He is the sire of 127 KWPN jumpers.

Carrera VDL
The licensed stallion Carrera VDL (Cardento out of Vantiels Esprit elite prest sport-spr PROK by Baloubet du Rouet, breeder K. Muys Jr. from Oterleek) drops from fourth to fifth place with a handful less foals than last year. In 2020 he scored 124 KWPN showjumping foals. Under Jur Vrieling the stallion caused furore at the very highest level for years.

Next week we will take a look at the sires of the Gelderlander and Harness horse foals born last year.
