Medal for KWPN-stallion: Greatgrandsire Ferro after 21 years succeeded by Everdale
It had been 21 years since a KWPN-stallion won a medal in dressage at the Olympic Games. The last time it was Ferro under Coby van Baalen, that contributed to the silver team medal in Sydney in 2000. In Tokyo it happened again: Gertjan van Olst’s Everdale (Lord Leatherdale x Negro) won the team bronze for Great Britain with Charlotte Fry.
In 1996 the recognized Weyden and Sven Rothenberger obtained bronze in Atlanta twice, followed by Ferro.
Many stallions
This year in Tokyo, many approved stallions made their appearance in the dressage arena. Thirteen of the 60 dressage stallions are breeding stallions (not all active). Besides Everdale, these were warmblood stallions All At Once, Dante Weltino, Dream Boy, Destano, Sanceo, Sir Donnerhall II and Blue Hors Zack and the Lusitanos Escorial, Equador, Fenix de Tineo and Fogoso. In addition, there was the approved, but now gelded Belstaff.
