The semi-final of the Pavo Cup kicked off this morning with the six-year-old category. Obtaining a score of 88,6 points, the semi-final was won by the mare Kadiene, presented by Svenja Grimm. 

Sven Rothenberger formed together with Coby van Baalen the jury for the semi-final. “We have seen some great horses, but I also have to add they were ridden very well,” starts Sven. “I had expected them to be rather short in the neck at times, but that was not the case at all. The horses were presented in a lovely frame and were superbly ridden.” 

Kadiene

The mare Kadiene (Zhivago out of Glamour Girl ster PROK by Belissimo M, bred by De Radstake B.V. out of Varsseveld) drew attention thanks to her harmonious style. “I was impressed by her light-footed trot, but we were positively surprised by the mare’s walk. She directly showed a great overstep. In the canter she remained nicely uphill. She is not a big mover; all the gaits were very good and the submission excellent. She was presented in sympathetic manner with light aids.”

Koning

Kadiene was ahead of three KWPN-approved stallions, Governor-son Koning (out of Gucci Boa T elite IBOP-dres D-OC by Bretton Woods, bred by S. Duinstra of Eastermar) was second. Emmelie Scholtens steered him to 87 points. “In trot, this was the best horse of the day, it is very impressive, always uphill and active from the hind leg. A horse that looks like a comfortable ride. He also showed a lovely canter. The walk is currently his least strong gait but was well-ridden. I think the higher classes will bring out the best of this horse.”

Kaygo

Scoring 86,4 points, Hexagon’s Kaygo (Capri Sonne JR out of Fila Manda elite sport-dres D-OC by Westpoint, bred by Stal Hexagon of Schore) and Thamar Zweistra placed third. “This horse shows lots of natural ability to collect in trot, with lots of suspension. For the young horse competitions, he could remain slightly more active, but this is his natural manner of trotting. The walk was good and in the canter he could place the bodymass more on the hind leg to place higher.” 

Kyton

Ferguson-son Kyton (out of Wilbria keur pref IBOP-dres by Ferro, bred by W.J.J. Goesten of Berkel Enschot) moved to 86 points under Bart Veeze. “This horse has a great, impressive canter, that is his best gait. He was very well presented. The walk is good, in trot you’d wish the fron leg was a tad longer. Note that I am critical to a high extent then.”

Kuvasz RS2

Under Marieke van der Putten, Kuvasz RS2 (Glamourdale out of Dyor de Hus elite pref IBOP-dres PROK by De Niro, bred by Havikerwaard Stud of De Steeg) climbed to the fifth position with 85 points. “This horse was well-ridden and executed the changes very nicely. It is a beautiful horse with a lovely frame. Today, he could have remained slightly more active in the hindleg.”

Final

The twelve highest placed six-year-old horses have qualified for the Pavo Cup final coming Sunday, that starts at 14.25hrs. Earlier that day, the twenty highest placed four- and five-year-old horses will make their appearance. The final takes place at the National Equestrian Centre in Ermelo and is entry is free. To come watch, you must order free tickets in advance. In addition, you must bring proof of identification and corona entry pass to Ermelo.
