WC Lanaken: Junior Kannan shared first position among 7-year-olds
In the main arena in Lanaken, the first round of the WC for seven-year-old jumper horses was just concluded. Five KWPN-horses were among the select group of clear combinations.
Nearly 190 pairs started in this first round, a two-phase 1.40m course, and the rankings were drawn up by dividing the list in two groups. Richard Vogel was the man to beat today. He crossed the finish line in the fastest time while not incurring any penalties with Looping Luna (s.Lord Fauntleroy) and immediately followed with the KWPN-bred Junior Kannan (3rd round viewing D-OC, Kannan out of Enabel by Diamant de Semilly, bred by M.J.A. Hoppen and Robert Dijkhuis). Aboard the latter he was the winner of the second group. Also Gilles Thomas obtained a top-10 placement with a KWPN-horse: J.Comghorla van Beek (Comme Il Faut out of Ghorla ster sport-spr by Padinus, bred by Guido Herijgers), with which he received third prize in the first group. A total of 52 clear rounds makes it likely that one needs two clear rounds to qualify for the final on Sunday, when the best thirty combinations are up for the title.
