The 2022 KWPN Stallion Show is not organised in the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch, but at the home base of the KWPN in Ermelo. The General Board of the KWPN took this decision based on the current measures surrounding the coronavirus and the uncertain (corona) situation in February.

Outgoing prime minister Rutte announced a lockdown in the press conference on December 18, primarily due to the threat of the Omicron variant that remains a serious concern for the government. The lockdown is in place until Friday January 14, 2022, the government bases a possible extension or easing on new data regarding infections and hospitalisations. At the moment, there are no indications that existing restrictions will be relaxed by the government. Therefore, it is decided to organise the KWPN Stallion Show (2 - 5 February) in a scaled-down format at the National Equestrian Centre: without spectators, without press and without VIP and with a program in place that guards the safety of the attendees.

KWPN Chairman Andries van Daalen: “Obviously, everyone had hoped we could finally return to our grand equestrian show in the Brabanthallen, but sadly it is impossible. We, as the General Board, understand the restrictions put in place by the government: it is the only way to stop this pandemic and the misery arising from it. However, this entails we had to make the painful decision to organise the KWPN Stallion Show online once again. Last year, we have reached a wonderful international audience in this way. In a similar fashion, we want to offer a fantastic online program this year and we hope that everyone is glued to the screen at home for days.

Unfortunately, this requires us to drop several elements (Oregon Trophy and the 1.40m/1.50m Grand Prix), however the entire stallion selection and for example the finals of the stallion competitions, the KWPN Select Sale and the presentations of last year’s approved stallions all take place in Ermelo. The program, broadcasted in its entirety at KWPN.nl, can be found on the website in due time. Just like last year, the online program will include various interesting studio talks and we ask several participants for their first reaction to the stallion selection. Do you have a question for the General Board, management, Breeding Council or Stallion Selection Committee? Send it to redactie@kwpn.nl and perhaps you will hear the answer live from our studio in Ermelo!

For breeding organisations such as studbooks, activities in the interest of the studbooks that are stipulated in the articles of the association as activities of studbooks – such as inspections of horses through keuringen and ability tests – may proceed. These activities are not classified as sports, but as breeding and are part of the daily operations of our organisation. These and other conditions are laid down in the ‘Temporary regulation measures covid-19 ‘(in Dutch).
