The KWPN Stallion Selection 2022/2023 for dressage, jumper and Gelder stallions kicks off from November 29 through December 9 at the KWPN Centre in Ermelo. Do you have a quality stallion you would like to present in the first round viewing? Sign him up now! The registration closes Monday October 31. 

During the first round viewing, quality stallions that are nearly three years of age come together at the KWPN Centre where they are assessed by the stallion selection committee. This committee consists of three breeding and sports experts. The best stallions advance to the second round viewing, that takes place during the 2023 KWPN Stallion Show in Den Bosch from the 1^st throughout the 4^th of February. 

Data

The first round viewing is opened by the dressage stallions from November 29 till December 3. The young jumper stallions enter the arena for free movement and loose jumping from 6-9 December. Finally, the Gelder stallions make their appearance on the 9^th of December. 

Registration

You can sign up your stallion via MyKWPN. Log in with your membership number and password and select the specific horse. Your registration is finalised when you click on the save button. The registration closes Monday October 31.

Ban on trimming sensory hairs and ears

Under the cloak of aesthetic appeal, the sensory hairs around the mouth and eyes of older horses and foals are often trimmed. To let appearances prevail efficacy, apart from the fact whether it is harmful or harmless, is not desirable in the context of horse welfare. Trimming the sensory hairs of a horse leads to a loss in sensory functions and can therefore hinder a horse. Therefore, in order to promote horse welfare, with effect of the inspection season of 2022 a ban on trimming sensory hairs and ears was introduced. For the stallion selection this means that stallions whose sensory hair around the mouth and eyes are completely removed and/or whose hairs inside the ears have been clipped are not permitted to partake in the stallion selection or other KWPN events and competition. 2022 was a transitional year, but with effect of the 1^st of January 2023, the rules are enforced and horses and foals that are groomed in this manner are not allowed in the inspection ring. 

KWPN Online Stallion Auction

In addition to the KWPN Select Sale, the KWPN Online Stallion Auction was initiated three years ago. This is an online auction for the first and second round viewing stallions that are auctioned via our auction platform. The stallions are published online, and the auction website provides extensive information including photo and video footage recorded during the first round viewing.
