While My Blue Hors Santiano, had to settle for the vice position in Kronenberg, he claimed the top honours in Ermelo. McLaren (s.Morricone), last competion’s winner, had to line up behind the Sezuan-son this time.

It was a sovereign victory for My Blue Hors Santiano (Sezuan out of Romanik s.Romanov Blue Hors, bred by Straight Horse APS of Alleroed) and Renate van Uytert-van Vliet as the pair scored 88.8 points. Bart Bax, seated at the judges table together with Mascha Reijs, praised their performance afterwards: “This stallion has such a presence under his rider. The walk is active, spacious, and supple. We give him an 8.5, he would get an even higher mark if he could lengthen his frame a bit more. The trot is elevated with an expressive front leg and powerful push, although he needs to develop a tad more power in the hindquarters, an 8.8. the canter displays a good jump and push off the ground. The stallion shows he can easily shift gear, canters nicely uphill and the hind leg is placed well under the body, a 9.2.” The submission and overall impression were marked a 9.0 and 8.9, respectively.

McLaren trots to a 9

Dinja van Liere and McLaren (Morricone out of Samatha s.Sir Donnerhall, bred by U. Toenjes of Ganderkesee) gave the concluding performance in the five-year-old class. The stallion was awarded 86 points in Ermelo. “The active, spacious walk is given an 8 since the stallion could have a more swinging body in the collection. The trot is alluring, light-footed and displays a formidable front leg technique, a 9! The canter has a powerful push, the extensions were great, but we would like to see more elasticity in the collection, an 8.8. An error in the transition to the canter slightly suppresses the score for submission: an 8.4. And finally, we grant him an 8.8 for overall impression”, explains Bart Bax.

Merlot VDL in third

In close pursuit we find Merlot VDL (Bordeaux out of Hyacinth-vrouwe preliminary keur PROK D-OC s.Florencio, bred by Family Klinkhamer of Sleen) that was ridden by Femke de Laat. The combination obtained 85.8 points. “We have seen a remarkably consistent contact throughout the test. The walk is active and shows good over track, an 8.2. The trot is equally active and very light-footed, an 8.8. In canter the stallion covers a lot of ground and shows good flexion in the hind leg, but it could all be a tad more uphill: an 8.6. It was an obedient performance with beautiful transitions we would like to reward with an 8.6 for submission and 8.7 for overall impression.”
