For the first time, the first round viewing for harness horses was held at the Zilfia’s Hoeve in Houten. The venue buzzed with excitement as the jury selected eight three-year-old stallions and one seven-year-old to the second round viewing. Eleven stallions were declared ster.

The Zilfia’s Hoeve was transformed to a wonderful stage for the KWPN Stallion Show for harness horse. Crowds had flocked to Houten, the programme ran on schedule and there was a wonderful atmosphere.

Hard surface

Divided over six groups, a total of 30 stallions made their appearance in the arena. In the morning they were first assessed on the hard surface, for which a spot was created in the hall. The jury was composed of Lammert Tel, chairman of the stallion selection committee, Bauke de Boer, Thomas van der Weiden and inspector harness horse Vigon van Beest. After the hard surface had been removed from the arena, all stallions returned for the jury and nine were invited to the second round viewing of February 4. Lammert Tel: “This group of stallions is of average quality and we would have liked to see more outliers among the selected stallions. The elevation of the front maintains an area of improvement, although the use of the hind leg still requires attention, too. The height of the withers is heading in the right direction.” A range of already approved stallions were presented in-hand, in harness and under the saddle. Their mighty performances were well received by the audience.

Lanto HBC

Lanto HBC en Cizandro were the main suppliers of the day, Lanto presented his first crop. Out of the six presented sons, three were selected and three were declared ster. After his initial presentation, the seven-year-old Latino (Dylano out of Freydessa keur IBOP-harness by Vaandrager HBC, breeder E. Kruiswijk of Loenen aan de Vecht) was asked to come back for an in-harness presentation which also resulted in an invitation to the second round viewing. The stallion Latino accumulated 66 winning points. He is also the stallion with the lowest degree of kinship (9,7%). The other stallions have a relatedness percentage of over 11. A few stallions must meet the PROK requirement prior to the second round viewing. Eight stallions were absent, they may be presented at the after-inspection.
