Samber and Kreator xx Deceased
The KWPN stallion Samber passed away just before Christmas. The pinto son of the English Thoroughbred Pericles xx was 33 years old. Samber was the KWPN's only approved pinto and was especially popular with enthusiasts of the color. In 1976, Samber was born on the property of Harm and Hennie Smilda in Roderwolde. The stallion was out of the couple's paint mare Tina ster preferent prestatie by Ordonnans out of a Romeo dam. After he was approved, Samber was sold to the Vrieling family of Coevorden, where he remained. Samber was a Grand Prix dressage competitor under Monique Peutz-Vegter and a Z-level jumper with Jannemiek Vrieling.
On Sunday, January 3rd, the Thoroughbred stallion Kreator xx (Babant xx x Dipol xx) passed away at age 18. "I turned him out in the indoor arena, just like every day. I left him there for an hour as usual so that I could lunge him for 15 minutes afterwards. When I came back to lunge Kreator, I found him dead in his stall," according to Peter Rinkes of Fortuna Hoeve in Pesse, where Kreator spent his winters.
At age 16, Kreator received KWPN approval after the evaluation of his offspring. He took part in the five-day performance test in which he was also assessed under saddle for rideability and trainability. Kreator's path to approval was not an easy one. At the time, a syndicate was set up to acquire the stallion and then was disbanded after his approval. Kreator was subsequently returned to the Rinkes family, who had originally discovered the stallion. Last fall, Kreator showed a very good collection of foals at the mandatory offspring inspection.
Kreator was purchased in the Czech Republic in 2001 after a tendon injury ended his impressive racing career.
