Stallions licensed by General Board
Since the start of the coronavirus, the KWPN was forced to postpone the performance test for riding- and Gelder stallions until further notice. For this reason, the General Board decided in March to allow registered stallions designated in 2020 from all breeding directions to apply for a breeding license for the breeding season 2020 (valid until 1 October 2020). The motivation for this is that the General Board was in the opinion that the breeding would not benefit if these genetically interesting stallions are not able to cover this year. The stallions has to be approved veterinary. The foals of the stallions with a license that will be born in 2021 are registered in the foal book. The license is therefore only valid this year.
A license has been applied for 22 jumping stallions, 28 dressage stallions, four Gelderse and four harness horse stallions. These stallions have passed the following (veterinary) examinations:
- X-ray examination and / or D-OC examination, appropriate to the breeding direction (all in possession of PROK / D-OC predicate, genome breeding value published in KWPN Database)
- Examination on cornage / respirator (all satisfied)
- WFFS study (published in the annex)
Part of the veterinary requirements also includes research into the spermquality and the genitals. In connection with the measures surrounding the coronacrisis, the University Clinic for Horses in Utrecht stopped conducting research on sperm quality and sex apparatus for a few weeks in the second half of March. As of April 21, she resumed her research under strict conditions and protocols for small numbers of stallions and on specific days. For this reason, not all stallions have been able to meet the requirements regarding sperm quality and sex apparatus. It has been communicated with the owners that the stallions must meet the requirements regarding sperm quality and sex apparatus before 1 October 2020 in order to be awarded the stud license. Most stallions have now been examined or have scheduled an appointment in the coming weeks.
