Today, the first-round viewing of the harness stallions was organised in Ermelo. Naturally, without any spectators. The day followed a tight schedule and out of a total of 35 stallions, divided over five groups, the jury referred eleven stallions to the second round.

The jury was comprised of chairman Lammer Tel, Bauke de Boer, Thomas van der Weiden and inspector harness horses Vigon van Beest that scored the stallions according to the lineair model together with Henk Prins. The to America exported Atleet saw three of his sons advance to the next round, Icellie and Kordaat all got two and Cizandro, Idol, Kapitaal and Kane BFT had one son that was invited to the second-round viewing. The degree of kinship was above ten for each of the referred stallions. The five-year-old Martin Morero got selected after he was also assessed in harness. The K-year took a prominent role with four stallions, but Kordaat and Kapitaal are no longer available for breeding. The selected stallions predominantly originate from solid damlines, some of which already produced multiple stallions. For instance, out of the mare Veldine (keur preferent by Manno), the full brother of the prematurely deceased Eebert received the green light. Nine stallions were awarded the ster predicate.

Hard surface

For the first time, the stallions were inspected on the hard surface in the indoor hall after this happen outside last year. Vigon van Beest thinks it’s an improvement. “In the arena, the stallions are often very tense, making the walk more difficult to assess. Now, we could score the stallions according to the linear form in peace and inspect their walk and conformation. In terms of quality, the inspector speaks of a varying collection with an albeit clear lower end but also a clear top. “A not so strong or poorly muscled top line and a neck that could be more vertical were areas of improvement. Of course, we are very pleased with the high number of entries and the group of selected stallions.”

Selected stallions: 700 Othello (Atleet x Wentworth Ebony) 702 Oregon V(Atleet x Manno) 707 Orlando (Cizandro x Dylano) 715 Olympus HM (Icellie x Colonist) 716 Oscar T (Icellie x Cizandro) 723 Onana (Idol x Unieko) 728 Obrian HJ (Kane BFT x Manno) 729 Opal K (Kapitaal x Fantijn) 731 Olympus (Kordaat x Manno) 732 Odesto M (Kordaat x Colonist) 736 Martin Morero (Atleet x Larix) vijf jaar
