After the second-round viewing, host Chris de Heer invited Henk Angenent and Jasper van der Waaij to the studio. They joined in for an interesting conversation about their vision on jumper breeding, based on practical experiences.

Henk Angenent rose to national fame when he won de Elfstedentocht in 1997. In that year, he was not only successful as ice skater, he also bought his first broodmare. 25 years later, he sold all his livestock and now focuses completely on the jumper horses together with his wife Sannah. They bred the successful international showjumper Fleur Sinaa-A and approved stallion Kaiden. Henk is a familiar face at the KWPN Stallion Show. “You see that steps are being taken in the stallion selection”, he tells. “We could ask ourselves if we should not select even more under the saddle, since it is closer to our breeding goals. The performance test under saddle is therefore very important. The stallion selection is continuously refined and polished and I think that is a good thing. In my opinion, it is important for breeders to invest in good sport horses. Those are not only older mares that were successful in sport, but also promising young mares and stallions.”

Breeder Jasper van der Waaij is board member of the JongKWPN and in that role also holds a seat in the Breeding Council Jumping. “We are a part of the KWPN for the youth from 16 to 30 years”, he explains about the JongKWPN. “We try to stimulate breeding among the youth by organising events and visiting breeders. The Breeding Council is very interesting for me. I learn a lot during the meetings, in which I hear how other people, that achieved a lot in breeding already, think of things. I try to represent the opinion of the youth in the Breeding Council.
