The new breeding values for harness horses are added to the database and the new stallion ranking has been published. Breeding values are updated every year and by now, the information that was collected in 2021, has been bundled in the breeding values.

 

A breeding value is an estimation of the degree in which a paternal animal passes on certain traits to offspring. As every year new information is gathered in inspections, ability tests and sport results, we calculate these breeding values each year anew. Breeding values are a practical tool in making your stallion choice, in which the genetic predisposition of a stallion is compiled.

Individual characteristics

In this overview, you will find the most important breeding values, but there are more elaborate breeding values of individual characteristics. Of each stallion you can find these in the KWPN Database under the header ‘genetic profile’. The breeding values for mares are also available in the KWPN Database, although the breeding values of all horses must have a minimum 30% reliability to qualify for publication. Would you like to make a careful selection of stallions based on a specific breeding value? That’s also possible via the KWPN Database, opt for ‘Breeding values’ in the search function.

Other breeding directions

The new breeding values of the Gelder horse, jumper horses and dressage horses will be published shortly. The breeding values for the characteristic ‘conformation’ will be available for all breeding directions mid-April 2022. The sport breeding values are expected to be published early June.
