One of the greatest leading sires of the KWPN was euthanized today at age 28. Daan Horn of De Wiemselbach shared they had to say their goodbyes to the preferent top progenitor this morning.

Daan Horn: “With great sadness and aching hearts, we had to say goodbye to our stallion Numero Uno this morning. An intensely sad day for our stable and our family personally as Numero Uno has always had and will always have a very special place in our hearts. It gives us comfort that until his death he was in a great condition and was enjoying every day of his retirement here at the Wiemselbach. For 28 years, we have had the pleasure of caring for him. For 28 years we were able to enjoy his unique personality and intelligence. Like we were there for him every day, he was there for us every day, willing to work and serve until the end. We are grateful for what he gave us and proud of all we were able to achieve together. Over the years, we have seen him grow in his role as an ambassador for jumper horse breeding and as the figurehead and undisputed leader of our stable. Our thanks go to all the staff who lovingly cared for him over the years and together we will cherish all the wonderful memories with him."

Exceptional sire

At three years of age, Numero was approved with solid marks for jumping before his international sport career. Under Marco Kutscher he developed into a successful 1.50m jumper. The Libero H-son proved to be an exceptional breeding stallion. A wide range of offspring performed at the highes level, including Tamino, Tyson, Winchester HS, Tobalio, Unaniem, Germanico T and Charmeur. The stallion bred by M. van Deursen sired no less than 13 KWPN-approved stallions, one of which was the KWPN-recognised Grand Prix stallion Cristello of Denis Lynch and multiple Grands Prix winner Van Gogh. The latter proves to be the successful successor to the Libero H-line of De Wiemselbach. Another seven KWPN-approved stallions were bred out of a dam by Numero Uno. Over 26000 Numero Uno-offspring were registered in the KWPN studbook and the influential stallion left his mark on jumper breeding through successful offspring worldwide.
