With Nunblisther, a daughter of Vigo d’Arsouilles, Bas Moerings ended his day by winning the Van Santvoort Makelaars Cup final for seven-year-olds.

The course was no easy task for the seven-year-olds, causing notable shifts in the overall standings, which were calculated based on both the semi-final and final results. Only two combinations jumped clear in the first round, and the jump-off determined only the day prize.

Top of the Generation
Luke Hill also went clear in the jump-off with the KWPN-approved stallion Night Life VDL (Erco van ’t Roosakker out of Ialba VDL elite IBOP-spr PROK by Arezzo VDL, bred and owned by VDL Stud). He took over the reins from Alex Gill in April and is now preparing for the World Championships in Lanaken (24–28 September), where the top nine Dutch-registered seven-year-olds have been selected. Thanks to their clear jump-off, they won the day prize and placed an impressive second in the overall standings. Night Life VDL, who won the six-year-old championship last year, once again proved he belongs at the top of his age group.

But there can only be one overall winner: Nunblisther sport-spr (by Vigo d’Arsouilles out of Blisther keur sport-spr prest by Farmer), an ultra-careful mare with a fantastic attitude, bred by the Moerings family themselves. It was a double celebration for the Moerings family, as they also won the six-year-old championship with Ovinio, another product of their breeding program.

“If I wasn’t satisfied now, I’d better quit riding,” Bas laughed. “The horses have done incredibly well. Nunblisther is a very sharp, careful mare with an amazing mindset. I think Lanaken might be a little too soon for her, since the fences are higher and she’s naturally already super careful, but we’ll discuss that at home.”

Sambucci de Muze Fifth
Under Daan van Geel, Nelson Pessoa (by Harley VDL out of Tsarina elite sport-spr prest PROK by Corland, bred by B.H. and M.G. van Ginkel) jumped with power to finish third overall. KWPN-approved stallion VDL Sambucci de Muze (Hunter’s Scendro out of Malissa de Muze by Vigo d’Arsouilles, bred and owned by Joris De Brabander) had won the semi-final but didn’t have luck on his side in the final under Luke Hill, dropping them to fifth in the final ranking.
