Magnifiek wins Oregon Trophy for the fourth time
On Saturday afternoon, the grandstands of the KWPN Stallion Show trembled with enthusiasm during the ever-spectacular Oregon Trophy, which was contested for the 28th time this year. Stallions Olympus JB and Magnifiek proved evenly matched, but in the end the battle was decided in favour of Magnifiek.
Five approved KWPN harness stallions competed in this spectacular class. Magnifiek had already won the trophy three times before and successfully defended his title once again. The stallions were judged by a panel consisting of Gerard Lokhorst, Marco Looye and Nathalie Buwalda.
Dream Horse
Registered owner and driver Lambertus Huckriede from Enschede described Magnifiek as “a dream horse.” The nine-year-old Magnifiek (Idol out of Helise keur by Atleet, breeder Henri Kruidhof from Rouveen) claimed victory in the final drive-off, ahead of Olympus JB and Latino.
Crowd Favourite Olympus JB
Now under new ownership and recently renamed Olympus JB—after the initials of owner Jan Bakker—Olympus JB (Icellie out of Indalina elite pref by Colonist, breeder Henk Minkema from De Wilgen) enjoyed strong support from the crowd in ’s-Hertogenbosch. He was greeted with loud applause upon entering the arena. Presenter Harry van Middelaar introduced him with great flair and showmanship, making a strong impression.
Latino
Latino (Dylano out of Freydessa keur prestatie by Vaandrager HBC, breeder and owner Egbert Kruiswijk from Loenen aan de Vecht, co-registered with Black Horse B.V. from Sliedrecht) won the Oregon Trophy in 2024. Once again, the ten-year-old black stallion was presented in a refined and consistent manner by Mark de Groot.
Neon GSM
The nine-year-old Neon GSM (Bocellies Matteo out of Daymonde keur by A New Day G.S.M.), bred by Jan Thijs Seinen from Punthorst and co-registered and driven by Albert Lueks from Diever, was not invited for the final drive-off, though he could just as well have been. He was presented correctly and showed the harness horse in all its beauty.
Nicolei VB
The elegant Nicolei VB (Image HBC out of Plain’s Estelle by Plain’s Black Magic, bred, registered and driven by Marcel van Bruggen from Varik, with co-registrant Egbert Schep from Tull en ’t Waal) also showed himself from his best side, but the competition proved just a step too strong for him on this occasion.
