The spring performance test concluded with the approval of 15 jumper stallions, 9 of which scored more than 80 points.

With 84.5 points, the Codex One son I Am Codex was deemed the most complete jumper.  The jumper stallion selection committee had several reasons to be satisfied today. The 15 approved stallions scored well quantitatively, and much can be expected of them qualitatively. The fact that these stallions vary greatly with respect to type, jumping talent and pedigree also contributed to today's positive feeling. “We started out with 32 stallions, and over the course of the test, we referred seven to a subsequent test. Today, we registered 15 stallions; and this coming Monday, we may add a 16th, the Clearway-son Chapeau TN, who is voluntarily taking part in the 21-day performance test,” explained Chairman Cor Loeffen, who serves on the jumper stallion selection committee, along with Hester Klompmaker and Wout-Jan van der Schans.  The powerhouse jumper I Am Codex (Codex One out of Capitola Z s.Calvaro Z), registered to breeder Tinus van der Bruggen of Goirle, received the highest scores. With 8's and numerous 8.5's, this stallion with interesting bloodlines ended with a total of 84.5 points. Loeffen: “With respect to type, this stallion could be a bit more attractive and have a little more stallion presence, but he made a positive impression time after time in jumping. He jumps with excellent push and reflexes, and has good rideability.”

The newly-approved group boasts good rideability, as evidenced by the numerous 9's which were awarded for this component of the test. “This year, we awarded separate scores for rideability and willingness for the first time. With respect to willingness, the stallions didn't vary much, as that component of the test obviously determines whether a stallion will continue in the test, so the stallions that didn't score well for that were already sent home. Rideability in the approved stallions is a strong component, and that's a good development,” asserted Loeffen.  Several of the new approved stallions are sons of famous Grand Prix stallions, including Glock’s London, Bubalu VDL and Berlin. “It's nice that a lot of the stallions are by sires that performed in the elite sport. The young sires are also well represented; for example, we registered sons from El Salvador's and Etoulon VDL's first year at stud. In addition, we were positive about the dam-lines of almost all the stallions in our evaluation, which means that these stallions will really be valuable for breeding,” remarked Loeffen.
