“Whether the world champion is amongst it, can never be certain, but I am convinced we selected the best horses of each age category. They all display the ability to rank high at the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses in Ermelo”, said chef d’equipe Jan Heidema at the announcement of the Dutch delegation during the Dutch National Dressage Championships yesterday night.

The best Dutch dressage horses of 5, 6 and 7 years old competed last Thursday and Saturday in the selection rounds for the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses, that will be organized in Ermelo from the 28th up to and including the 31st of July. In this select group we find eight KWPN-stallions, amongst others Four Legends. This black pearl does not only participate in the championships for five-year-olds, it was also selected for the exclusive collection auction horses that will go under the hammer in the Excellent Dressage Sales on Saturday July 30th.

Good groups The selection rounds for the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses were judged by Karin Retera, Adriaan Hamoen, Monique Peutz and Jan Enne Kloosterboer. “The group 5-year-old show balance and expression and are all able to perform a consistent test. They are ridden by experience riders, of whom we expect they can perform under pressure”, says Karin Retera. Also Monique Peutz, jury spokesperson of the 6-year-old horses, is pleased with the Dutch delegation. “The 6-year-olds are very pleasant horses. Their test includes a series of flying chances. This movement is already well confirmed for some, while other horses are still a bit green. We have enjoyed these horses, which all have good basis gaits.” For the first time, seven-year-old dressage horses will make their appearance in the competition ring of the World Breeding Dressage Championships for Young Horses. “A new group”, confirms Adriaan Hamoen. “We notice that the riders still have to get used to the manner of judging. They receive a score for technical execution and for the qualities of the horse. These scores can sometimes differ up to 10%.” Hamoen says the seven-year-olds is a varied group. “From conformation of the horse to the execution of the test. The level is challenging, but the horses are certainly a match for each other.”
