The first day of the KWPN Championships featured the young horses competitions Isah Cup and Pavo Cup. The KWPN-approved stallions made a good impression, with Total U.S. leading the semi-final of the Pavo Cup for four-year-olds and 100% score in the Isah Cup for seven-year-olds.

Pavo Cup semi-final 4-year-olds

The annual Pavo Cup kicked off on Monday with the semi final of the four-year-olds. 85 dressage talents displayed their talents and formed a full day’s program. The horses that entered the arena in pairs, were assessed on their natural abilities. The best 20 horses earned more than 82 points today, ensuring an exciting final on Thursday. Two horses led the rankings today: Haeden (s.Chippendale, b: H.J. Bakker, Oosteinde and S.M. Quitz, Oosteinde) with Ingrid Malan and the KWPN-approved stallion Total U.S. (s.Totilas, breeder Gestüt Lewitz, Steinfeld). They both scored 88 points, but were closely followed by Happynesse E (s.Rousseau, breeder G.C. van Eck, Linde) and Lynne Maas (87 points). Johan Hamminga spoke on behalf of the jury: “We had a lovely day, the arena looked great and all the horses presented themselves well. The riders clearly understood how a four-year-old must be presented. We as the judges believe to have a very strong top group of 10 horses. The scores of these talents were very close to each other and this gives opportunities on Thursday.”

Isah Cup first round 5-year-olds

Out of the 182 five-year-old jumpers, 78 horses remained clear in the first rounds. Another fifty pairs with 4 penalties or less may continue to the second round, bringing Wednesday’s starting list to a total of 128 contestants.
