Last weekend Lanaken was home to the World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses, featuring the best young show jumpers from around the globe.

Silver for Flash

In the most sensational final of the day, the final for 7-year-olds at 1.45m level, Pieter Devos and Flash (Numero Uno out of Adri-Sina L by Indoctro) were the last to enter the ring in the jump-off. The pair used it to their advantage and secured the silver medal. Even though Pieter Devos and the Numero Uno-offspring have only formed an combination since April and the Belgian rider has his eyes set on the higher level sports with him, the duo made it clear that they are already a force to be reckoned with. The rider has nothing but praise for the breeding product Ad Roeloefs from Son. "He is a fantastic jumper and I have great expectations of him. I brought him here to gain experience and now we won a medal! " In the jump-off counting nine combinations, Monique van den Broek claimed the 8th place with Fasimos (Heartbreaker out of Cassima by Cassini I) that was bred by her father Henk van den Broek from Sevenum. The top ten was completed by Giovanni Luchetti riding Grenoble DN (s.Gaillard de la Pomme out of Onjolie by Capitol II, bred by G. Deen from Enkhuizen). 

 

KWPN-approved Graziano 4th 

The 6-year-old final featured the most thrilling jump-off with a total of 20 combinations. This ensured the audience of some fast rounds and risk-taking riders. Steven Veldhuis, saddling the KWPN-approved Graziano, kept his head cool. The Baltic VDL-son started off quickly, and showed to combine both scope and great reflexes. His rider chose the safer yet slightly more time consuming line to the double, resulting in an impressive clear round. Steven Veldhuis: "No medal, which is a pity but in advance I would have happily signed for the fourth position! In the last part of the jump-off I could have been faster, but completing a clear round is also important and Graziano jumped fantastically. Graziano was bred by Henk and Andreas Barenkamp from Ter Apel out of Rienaldine ster by Great Pleasure. Andreas Barenkamp was present to watch the ride of his breeding product and clearly enjoyed it: "It is an incredible experience, we follow him closely and it is great to see him putting up a strong performance here!" 

The Ultimo-son Gerlain (out of Charlaine stb-ext by Ukato, bred by J.M.J. Reukers out of Zieuwent) and Amr Gamal Mohamed were spectacular in the first round, but took to much risk in the jump-off, that resulted in one pole down. 

Harwich VDL 8th in final 5-year-olds

Only seven riders remained clear in the final for 5-year-olds. James Billington and Harwich VDL (2nd round viewing PROK, s.Arezzo VDL out of Alba VDL stb-ext by Darco, bred and registered VDL Stud in Bears) seemed to steer towards the jump-off as well, but the strict time allowed prevented this. One time penalty meant an eight place in the finals for this talented Arezzo VDL-offspring. The were followed by Sander Naber and the Zirocco Blue VDL-son Hassal (2nd round viewing PROK out of Urona ster by Indoctro, bred by N.H.G. Broeders in Hooge Zwaluwe). The grey showed to have no difficulties with the obstacles, but also had to note two time penalties.  

 

Carera 2nd in Sires of the World

In the Sires of the World competition at 1.50m level, the KWPN-approved Carrera (Larino out of Ehrentender ster pref prest by Contender, bred by Arend Florijn from Geesteren) and Willem Greve claimed the second place.
