On September 11 Foal Auction Prinsjesdag has one very special lot for sale. Half of the proceeds from showjumping foal Velleza-S Z will be donated to the Support Casper campaign of  the Dutch foundation for surviving with pancreatic cancer (Stichting Overleven met Alvleesklierkanker). This organization is fully committed to fighting one of the most aggressive forms of cancer.

The initiators of the foundation are all friends and family of people who have died of pancreatic cancer. They discovered that there is shockingly little attention for pancreatic cancer. Presumably because most people die so quickly that there’s no time and space to set up actions or to demand attention for the disease.

Every day, eight people die of pancreatic cancer in the Netherlands alone. 90% of the patients with whom it is diagnosed do not survive the disease. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and at the same time collect structural money to make much-needed research into new, innovative treatment methods possible. Campaigner is oncologist and surgeon Casper van Eijck. He specializes in pancreatic cancer and collects money for new research.

The initiator of the action during the auction is breeder and member of the selection committee Fred van Straaten. "Last year I saw a show on TV about the work of this foundation and in particular the doctor behind it; Casper van Eijck. He seemed to be a very special man. Fortunately, I have no personal experience with this disease and I do not hope to get it either. It is a form of cancer that is so disastrous for people; it did not let me go. I thought we needed to do something with this. And our auction is an ideal moment to do our part."

Velleza-S Z will be auctioned on September 11 as the first foal. Half of the proceeds will benefit the Support Casper campaign.
