Foals are weaned, at an average of 6 months of age, at which point they are taken away from their mothers. Some go to a rearing stable where they can grow up in a group, others are kept at home. And while this is a first step toward becoming an adult, they still have very different feeding needs than adult horses.

Young horses that are in full growth need nutrients that support good and even growth. This includes energy and protein, but also the right amounts of minerals and calcium / phosphorus ratio is essential for optimal development of the bone system. A basic pellet doesn't meet these requirements and will not do your foal justice. For optimal support it is therefore important that you choose a concentrate feed that meets the needs of your half year old!
