It’s almost time for the main event of the year: the KWPN Stallion Show 2023! For four days, the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch form the center stage of sport, breeding, and show. Every day revolves around the stallion selection. Which sires may call themselves the top suppliers of the young harness horse and Gelder horse talents this year?

Friday February 3, three Gelder stallions may present themselves to the stallion selection committee for the second time. On Saturday, ten harness stallions return for their second round viewing. Later that day, all appointed stallions come back for an in-hand presentation and the premium stallions are announced.

Harness stallions

Lanto HBC (Delviro HBC out of Urby V ster pref by Patijn pref, breeder D. van der Boon of Noardburgum) produced three three-year-old harness stallions and is therefore the lead sire this second round viewing. The other preselected three-year-old harness horses and one older harness stallion descend from different stallions: Cizandro pref, Heliotroop VDM, Hubert VDM, Icellie, Idol and Indiana. The preselected seven-year-old harness horse is a son of Dylano.

Gelder stallions

Lanto HBC is also represented by a stallion in the second round viewing for Gelder horses. This brings his total to four offspring. The preferente Alexandro P (Koss out of Itilde keur pref by Satelliet, bred by H.J. and F.J. Peters of Stokkum) also delivers a son for the second round viewing for Gelder stallions. The third Gelder stallion that makes his appearance in the second round viewing is the seven-year-old Lorano V, a son of Danser (Sander out of Sharon ster by Ahoy, bred by W. Kok of Zwolle).

Second round viewing

During the second round viewing the harness stallions are asked to perform a trot and walk in-hand in the arena. Besides the conformation and movement, the stallion selection committee also considers the pedigree and expectation value that is based on available data. In the breeding direction Gelder horse, the free movements of the three-year-old stallions are evaluated. The seven-year-old Lorano V was inspected by the stallion committee during the stallion competition and at a dressage show. This stallion will only enter the arena during the announcement of the results. After the individual presentation in the second round viewing all stallions return to the cage in groups and the committee announces whether a stallion gets appointed for the last step towards possible approval: the performance test.

KWPN Stallion Show 2023

From 1 to 4 February 2023., the KWPN Stallion Show marks the culmination of Dutch sport and breeding. Besides the stallion selection of all breeding directions, an exciting show programme is in the works. This year will for example include a dazzling appearance of WC medalists Glamourdale and Hermès, plus the Horses of the Year 2022, Kjento and Grandorado TN N.O.P. are honoured. New this year are the breeder pubs (with live music) and a special afternoon for the youth and their parents during which they can meet YouTube stars such as Esra de Ruiter of PaardenpraatTV. The approved stallions enter the arena during the award ceremony of prestigious predicates and in the finals of the Blom Stallion Competition Jumping and the Anemone Stallion Competition Dressage. In between you get to enjoy a bite to eat in our renewed brasserie at the promenade.  All in all, we promise to treat you to a fantastic programme that revolves around the very best of the Dutch sport horse.
