KWPN Stallion Larino Dies
The KWPN stallion Larino has passed away in Argentina at age 22, as reported this morning by Team Nijhof via Facebook. Bred by Arend Florijn of Geesteren, the Concorde son was out of the preferent broodmare Erina (Armstrong out of Warina ster pref prest by Ridder), whose grandson is the KWPN stallion Zürich. Originally named Lancelot, Larino was approved for KWPN breeding as a four-year-old. Under Peter Geerink, the gray stallion became a successful Grand Prix jumper. In the fall of 2001, Larino made his Grand Prix debut and placed second in The Hague, finished second and third in Valkenswaard, and posted a fantastic clear round in the team competition at Rotterdam, in addition to tying for sixth place in the Grand Prix. Furthermore, Larino ended sixth in the Dutch Championships in Mierlo, the youngest horse to show at that venue. The stallion's other achievements include finishing fourth in the Grand Prix of Hickstead, fifth in the Grand Prix of Bremen and first in the team competition. Larino also won the VHO Trophy competition in 2003. Larino has one KWPN-approved son: eight-year-old Carrera , who is competing successfully at the 1.35m level under Willem Greve.
