Selena VB Triumphs Magnificently to National Title
There were a few drops of rain now and then, but it remained within limits so that the Gelder horses and foals could show themselves to the fullest during the morning program of the breeding day. Among the seven three-year-old mares, the magnificent Selena VB convincingly waltzed to victory.
Just as she did a few weeks earlier during the National Day of the Gelder Horse. Arie Hamoen, Jan Pen, and Marloes van der Velden served as judges in the arena. Marloes explained: “This beautiful group of mares is well developed and fits the Gelder type very well. About the champion Selena, she said: ‘Selena VB is a long-lined mare with strong connections. Her walk is particularly striking -spacious and pure. In trot, she shows tremendous power and lift. Selena VB by Bloomberg is out of National Champion, the elite sport mare Miss Montreal by Edmundo.’” She was bred and is registered to Marcel van Bruggen from Varik. He was very pleased with the victory: “I thought Selena showed herself even better than she did during the National Day of the Gelder Horse. At home, I train my horses to walk low and over the back over cavaletti poles - that really strengthens them.”
Reserve Title
That went to Surprise by Starlight VDW, an elegant daughter of Bellany out of Delight Ludanchelo V (keur sport-dres) by Patijn). Marloes said: “A mare with a strong topline, though she could rise a bit more from the withers compared to the champion. She does have a lot of bend in the hind leg. Surprise by Starlight VDW was bred and is registered to D.H.H. van de Winkel from Oldeberkoop. Her sire is Bellany.”
