Porsche Knight Races to Victory in Five-Year-Old Final
After placing third in the semi-final of the Van Santvoort Makelaars Cup, Steven Veldhuis and the Komme Casall TN offspring Porsche Knight came back strong today to win the final.
The top 40 combinations from the semi-final qualified for the final of the KWPN Championship for five-year-olds, competing for the Van Santvoort Makelaars Cup. Sixteen pairs jumped clear.
Competitive Winner
Steven Veldhuis has been in top form all week with his young showjumpers and could once again count on the sharp and speedy Porsche Knight (by Komme Casall TN out of Kaapverdi by Verdi, bred by T.H. Knight of Geesteren) in the jump-off. “In the semi-final, I didn’t even ride fast and still ended up third. Today, I went all in – and it paid off! She’s a very quick and sharp mare with an excellent front leg,” commented the young horse specialist.
The five-year-old mare is bred from the full sister of the international 1.45m horse Caapverdi. Her dam is also a half-sister to the similarly successful Mister SFN (by Grandorado TN), who was also a standout in the KWPN Championships as a young horse.
The KWPN-approved stallion Pagani of the Paddocks (Catoki out of Lewinsky by Corofino I, bred by Anthony Mornie) won on points last year as a four-year-old and made his mark again this year. He jumped to an impressive second place under Pietro Lazzaro. “Pagani is truly an amazing horse and always gives that little bit extra in the ring. He’s got a lot of blood and has grown much stronger,” said the Italian rider, affiliated with Stal Hendrix.
Ten Headed to Lanaken
The national mare Prima Donna ES (La Costa ES out of Femme Fatale by Coriano), co-owned by breeder of the year Egbert Schep and the Agterberg family, claimed third place under Renèe de Weert. The rider has only been partnered with the large, powerful mare for two and a half months, and this result earned them an invitation to the World Championships for Young Jumping Horses in Lanaken. The top ten five-year-olds with Dutch registration numbers receive an invitation, which excludes Pagani of the Paddocks due to his Belgian breeding.
Among the selected horses is the talented KWPN-approved stallion Porsche SB (Kitt SB out of Legend Power SIH ster EPTM-spr by Vagabond de la Pomme, bred by Jaco and Linda Hiemstra), who finished ninth after delivering two clear rounds under Suzanne Tepper.
