Having already won the Pavo Cup as a four-year-old, Extreme U.S. returned to claim the title again this year as a six-year-old. The scores from guest rider Simone Pearce proved decisive. The Escamillo son was in second place before the guest rider phase but moved into the lead with an impressive 9.5 for the rideability test.

Extreme U.S. (by Escamillo out of Viva Contana PS by Vivaldi, bred by Gestüt Lewitz in Steinfeld) had already won the semi-final under Renate van Uytert – van Vliet, but showed tension in the first part of the final this morning. He made up for it this afternoon by fully convincing guest rider Simone Pearce. “Wow, what a lovely horse,” she said after dismounting. “When you ride this horse, you feel like you’re on a future Grand Prix horse. And that’s what young horse competitions are about—finding the next Grand Prix horses.”

Renate van Uytert – van Vliet is thrilled with her top talent. “This was incredibly tense,” she began. “He’s in great shape, and on Thursday I had an amazing feeling. The weather was terrible this morning and he’s very sensitive—it made him nervous and I couldn’t fully settle him. That was frustrating, but I knew he could give the guest rider an incredible feeling. The feeling he gives is magical.”

Best Mare
Reserve champion and best mare was Odi Murona, a daughter of Blue Hors Farrell (out of Dear Murona elite pref EPTM-dres sport-dres PROK by Johnson, bred by Jo van den Broek of Hilvarenbeek), presented by Tessa Kole. She received the highest score in this morning’s phase and added an 8 this afternoon. “A beautiful type with three very good gaits,” said Simone Pearce. “She has a big future ahead of her but still felt a bit green to me.”

Well Trained
The KWPN stallion Ozzy TN (Ibiza out of Marabella by For Romance, bred by C. Ortmann Ellerbrock from Friesoythe) impressed not only his regular rider Kim Alting, but also Simone Pearce. “A very sympathetic horse that really tried to understand me. He’s honest and very well-trained—his rider has done a great job. He could still develop a bit more power from behind, but he’s very rideable.”
