4* Grand Prix victory for Danny Schaper-bred horse
International show jumper, trainer, and entrepreneur Danny Schaper enjoyed breeding success last weekend. His homebred Genius daughter Licolle won the CSI4* Grand Prix of Ascona.
Swiss rider Barbara Schnieper celebrated the biggest victory of her career at the 32nd CSI Ascona, claiming her first 4* Grand Prix in front of her home crowd.
Genius Daughter
Schnieper claimed victory with Licolle (Genius out of G by Eldorado van de Zeshoek), bred and partly produced by Danny Schaper from Ommen, whom she has been competing internationally since autumn 2023. The pair made their 1.50m debut earlier this spring, jumping their first Grand Prix classes. At CSI4* Ascona, they faced a challenging Grand Prix course, with only four combinations qualifying for the jump-off. There, they proved the fastest and once again jumped clear. “This is truly amazing, Licolle jumped fantastic, and she’s only nine years old. This was our second 4* Grand Prix, and I’m so happy that we managed to win my first 4* Grand Prix here in Ascona of all places,” said the Swiss rider afterward. Licolle’s dam is a half-sister to the Grand Prix stallion Willow (Guidam), whom Schaper himself produced to 1.60m level before the stallion went on to compete successfully at the highest level with riders including Kent Farrington.
Breeder of the Year 2021
Licolle wasn’t the only successful horse bred by an international rider last weekend. The KWPN-approved stallion Key West (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Zanory T keur pref prest by Phin Phin), bred by Roelof Bril from Zieuwent, placed third in the CSI3* Grand Prix at Riesenbeck with Jodie Hall McAteer. The pair stayed double clear in the 1.50m class. Until earlier this year, the striking chestnut stallion competed under Ronnie Jones, with whom he represented the KWPN team successfully at the WBFSH Studbooks Jumping Global Champions Trophy.
