Dutch dressage horse breeders once again the best in the world
For the ninth consecutive year, Dutch dressage horse breeders have proven to be the best in the world. Since 2017, KWPN dressage breeders have led the WBFSH ranking, and between 2009 and 2015 they already held the top position for seven consecutive years. Dutch show jumping breeders rank third in the studbook ranking, while the KWPN holds fourth place in the eventing ranking.
The WBFSH rankings are based on results achieved between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025. Horses can earn points at all international FEI competitions. They are ranked by success, and the results of the six best-performing horses count toward the WBFSH studbook ranking. All six top KWPN dressage horses from the past year are ranked within the top 20.
In British service
Dutch breeders owe this distinction in part to the strong performances of the silver-medal-winning British team. World Cup winner Glamourdale (Lord Leatherdale out of Thuja stb pref prest by Negro, bred by Joop Rodenburg from Ouderkerk aan den IJssel) made a significant contribution to the team silver at the European Championships in Crozet with Charlotte Fry, and ranks fourth on this list. In fifth place is Jägerbomb, a son of Dante Weltino, bred by his British rider out of the Jazz mare Udysee. In eighth place we find Fame (Bordeaux out of Bonaventura ster prest sport-dres by Rhodium, bred by the Gerritsen family from Leerdam), who also performed strongly in Crozet.
Top 20
Competing under the Belgian flag, Flambeau (Ampère out of Lakarla elite pref prest sport-dres PROK by Zeoliet, bred by José van Eijkelenburg from Oisterwijk) is in the form of his life and holds fifteenth place in the ranking, just ahead of Gotilas du Feuillard (Totilas out of Vital Hit ster PROK by Ferro, bred by Unlimited Stables from Lunteren), who impressed for France in the World Cup Final. Hartsuijker, ridden by Dinja van Liere, contributes to the stable position of the Dutch breeders with his nineteenth-place finish. The Johnson son (out of Balinda ster pref IBOP-dres PROK by Scandic, bred by M. Wolfs-van den Berg from Rekken and I.D. Wolfs of Loenersloot) showed strong performances throughout the World Cup series.
Dutch influence
The top three of the ranking also show clear Dutch influence. Oldenburg’s second-place finish is due in part to Bluetooth OLD (s.Bordeaux), who ranks seventh, and Total Hope (s.Totilas), who is ninth. Invoice (s.Jazz), bred by Piet Crum, comes from the same Grand Prix dam line that also produced the stallion Tango. Hannover’s third place is strengthened by the KWPN-recognized rising star Zonik Plus, who traces back through his sire to Blue Hors Zack. The KWPN-approved keur stallion Glock’s Toto Jr. and his son Glock’s Taminiau also go back to Totilas. Tarantino 5 carries a significant amount of Dutch blood as well, his sire Toronto (s.Now or Never M) is fully KWPN-bred.
