For this week’s Trivia we had a look at the 2022 IBOP tests for dressage horses. In 2021, Krack C-daughter Latina obtained 90 points for her IBOP and was therefore the best scoring dressage mare. Which horses top the ranking of 2022?

In 2022 there were 26 IBOPs for dressage mares. 373 horses participated, 266 of which passed the test. Out of the horses that obtained a passing score, 65 were declared ster, 154 elite, nine keur and sixteen are still preliminary keur.

Main supplier Glock’s Toto Jr.

Glock’s Toto Jr. (Totilas out of Desperada by Desperados, bred by Schmidt of Naumburg) was the most common sire on the entry list of dressage horses last year. He was represented by seventeen offspring in the IBOP. Out of those seventeen horses, thirteen passed the test. In close pursuit we find Desperado (Vivaldi out of Sarita elite pref prest D-OC by Havidoff, bred by family Andeweg of Randwijk). Sixteen offspring of his entered the IBOP test and fourteen obtained a passing score.

Omiek

The highest IBOP score among the dressage mares was granted to Omiek (Hermès out of Ceramiek stb PROK by Samarant, breeder Damy Story of Rhenoy). During her IBOP in Velddriel, the mare was awarded a total of 90,5 points. Earlier, Omiek had been successful at the studbook inspections where she earned 80/80 but raised the bar under the saddle. “What a fantastic and sympathetic horse! She was presented in such a natural manner, is very eager and so level-headed for a three-year-old. She showed beautiful transitions and a consistent balance. Her walk is good, and her trot displays great impulsion, schwung and hindquarter technique. In the neck stretch she nicely follows the hand and excels in balance and cadence. We awarded her trot and canter a 9,5, since she packages her stride so well in the canter, again showing off that balance and her ability to maintain the length in her neck. Truly a complete dressage horse,” enthused Bart Bax.

Ollympia-ST

The runner-up with 88,5 points is the Fürst Jazz-daughter Ollympia-ST (out of Florence-ST ster IBOP-dres by Uphill, breeder P. Stegenga of Wommels). “This mare was presented in an excellent manner and gave a great performance. She walks with ample activity, an engaged hind leg and flexion in the joints. In the trot she displays rhythm and impulsion, a good front limb technique with lots of freedom in the shoulder and she moves uphill. We notice the same qualities in the canter, that is marked by abundant impulsion and a powerful jump, and she keeps a lovely posture. The 3,5-year-old mare furthermore demonstrated her rideability and maintained her balance remarkably well in the extended parts”, comments inspector Wim Versteeg.

Ociana

Right behind, with a score of 88 points, we find Ociana (For Romance out of Ciana elite EPTM-dres pref D-OC by Tuschinski) of breeder family Klinkhamer of Sleen. After her performance, the mare was registered in the studbook with 80 points for conformation. “This is a modern mare with an appealing front, a noble presence and a good wither-/shoulder positioning. She put on an amazing performance, obtaining nines for the walk, suppleness, posture & balance, rideability & trainability and perspective as a dressage horse”, lauded inspecteur Wim Versteeg. “Her walk is active, covers a lot of ground and demonstrates a good technique. That same technique was emerged in trot; she moved with a swinging body and abundant self-carriage. She canters with ample impulsion and balance. At first, she was presented at insufficient length in the neck, but after the individual performance the length in the neck got better and this tremendously benefitted her canter. A remarkable mare.”
