Three stallion selection committees gathered in Ermelo on Monday for the start of the spring performance test. Twelve three-year-old jumper stallions and nine three-year-old dressage stallions were presented and accepted to start their test. 

That brings the total to 21 stallions that are currently stabled at the KWPN Centre. They may be joined by a few more stallions the coming weeks. 

Jumper stallions

In addition to the twelve jumper stallions that arrived for the spring performance test, the committee also inspected a few three- and four-year-old stallions. “Four four-year-old stallions have completed their first saddle presentation. They were appointed to the performance test last year, and this spring marks their last chance to participate in the performance test. When they meet the veterinary requirements, they may enter the 21-day-test on April 4.” The Diamant de Semilly-son On The Spot (out of Kathelien W keur IBOP-spr by Cornet Obolensky) of breeders Jan and Willem Greve was furthermore successfully presented for a retake, he may also be delivered on April 4. Toledo VDL (Tobago Z out of Caroline Z by Chellano Z) of VDL Stud and Tattoo H&DB (Parfait van het Schaeck out of O’Mega H&DB by Kannan) of Team Nijhof were also accepted to start their test early April. “Last year, it was the first time we offered the opportunity participate in the saddle presentation prior to the performance test and we liked it. These two stallions Toledo VDL and Tattoo H&DB were given the green light to start the 21-day-test. The next possibility to offer stallions is the Blom Cup in August”, explains Henk Dirksen. “The three-year-old stallions that have started the performance test will focus on dressage training the coming days and on Friday they take their first jumps. During the presentation today we assessed the trainability, and they showed a few jumps with their own rider. The committee will come together to evaluate the progress every Tuesday.”\

Dressage and Gelder stallions

The stallion selection committee dressage also assessed the trainability of the stallions and shared their findings with the owners. “In consultation with the owners we decided that three stallions will be offered in the autumn performance test. The other nine horses were successfully presented. One stallion had a swelling on the jaw, this stallion may come back to Ermelo next week. He was therefore not presented under saddle today”, says Floor Dröge. The four-year-old Onedin (Glock’s Toto Jr. out of Iresia ster pref PROK by Metall, breeder Cor Heemskerk) of Xanthos Horses was also presented under saddle. This stallion may, provided he meets the veterinary requirements, start his performance test on April 3. “In general, the presented stallions demonstrated good rideability and calmness to be evaluated by the committee. Coming Friday the committee again congregates to view the stallions. Every Tuesday, Johan Hamminga trains the stallions and followed by the evaluation of the committee every Friday.” Three four-year-old Gelder stallions performed their saddle presentation for the stallion selection committee today. They were also presented by their own rider and jump a simple line and vertical.
