Foal bliss from the KWPN Online Broodmare & Embryo Auction
A little over a month ago, the virtual hammer fell in the first KWPN Online Broodmare & Embryo Auction of 2023. One of the highlights of the auction was the four-year-old dressage mare Osadia (s.Daily Diamond).
By now, the mare has given birth to her first foal. A beautiful and healthy dark bay filly (s.Las Vegas) that lives up to the expectations.
Benefit of auctions
After a fierce bidding duel between the Netherlands and the United States, Miss Van Hoof and Mister Hooyen could call themselves the happy new owner of Osadia. They reflect on their purchase in the auction: “The auction went well for us. After a long search we finally found what we were looking for. A mare of strong origins with established horses in the pedigree. We wanted to start out right. Without this auction we would have never found this mare.”
Owner Mister van Hooyen shares to be critical of his own breeding programme. Only the best is good enough. When it’s not the case, you must dare to remain honest and keep on making a strict selection.” And yet, the filly – named Tesla – lives up to the expectations, according to Mister van Hooyen: “A sharp, light-footed foal with ample suppleness in the movements.” The mare will be bred for a few more seasons before starting her career under the saddle of the family’s granddaughter.
