This week’s Trivia Thursday had us diving into the database in search of the best Gelder IBOP mares. In 2021 the Alexandro P-daughter Nadien M.C. emerged as IBOP top scorer among the Gelder bred mares as she received 84 points in total. Which mares top the ranking of 2022?

Gelder horse may participate in the IBOP under saddle or in harness. If they are entered for the test under saddle, the Gelder mare must perform a dressage test and jump a few fences. The jumping abilities are evaluated under saddle and through free jumping. If a mare is presented in harness, she is asked to perform both a driving test and agility test.

Ninkie

Ninkie (Henkie out of Blitz ster by Voice, bred by and registered to H. Ermens of Sint Anthonis) was crowned three-year-old champion of the National Day of the Gelder Horse and declare vice-champion of the three-year-old Gelder mares at the National Mare Championships of Ermelo. The expectations were therefore high, but completely met. Ninkie was awarded 85,5 points and thereby obtained the highest score of 2022. “A noble mare that is sight to behold under saddle. She has an active walk with a swinging back, an active and carried trot and the canter shows abundant length, impulsion, and balance. She jumps with a good technique and demonstrates to be very careful. We gave her a 9 for the trot and carefulness and even a 9,5 for the canter. What a lovely horse!”, enthuses Marloes van der Velden.

Melotti Texel

The rising six-year-old ster sport mare Melotti Texel (Edmundo out of Violetta H ster by Lorton, bred and registerd to N.P.C. Garritsen-Berkelaar) had previously completed the IBOP under saddle and repeated the feat in harness. The mare is campaigned in both dressage and driving and is also active in hunting. “So fun, such a versatile horse and it makes it even more impressive that the mare obtained 83,5 points today. It is a horse that draws your attention in harness. The walk is active and powerful, the trot shows great self-carriage and a beautiful front limb technique. She needs little speed to retain a nice posture. We have given her an 8,5 for the trot, posture, agility, willingness to work, attitude, and eagerness to go”, says Marloes van der Velden.

Odiezelma

In that same group of in harness presentations, one mare scored half a point less: Imposant-daughter Odiezelma (out of Wiezelma ster pref by Sirius, bred by L.W.M. Kollenburg of Best, registered to S. Postma-van der Wal of Wijtgaard). “This is a very willing horse and even though she is only three years of age, she is so composed in her test. She is easy to ride and has a lovely, quiet connection. Both the walk and trot are active with a swinging body and she possesses a great canter with lots of balance. She received an 8 for the walk and the trot and an 8,5 for the other aspects”, explains Marloes van der Velden.
