Blom Stallion Competition: New Pleasure VDL wins class M
Hessel Hoekstra has formed a partnership with the KWPN-approved stallion New Pleasure VDL for just three weeks and already demonstrated the ability to win at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre.
In the class M of the Blom Stallion Competition, 14 stallions qualified for the jump-off, resulting in an exciting competition. With New Pleasure VDL, previously ridden by Cristel Kalf (For Pleasure out of Lady-A ter Putte by Diamant de Semilly, breeder Familie De Maertelaere/Stal Van de Zuidakker from Bassevelde), Hessel Hoekstra secured VDL Stud's second victory.
Second win for VDL
Hessel Hoekstra won the class Z/ZZ with Stargos VDL and immediately added the victory in class M. "We can go home satisfied! He is a very nice, fast horse, and he gives me a very good feeling. I have only been riding him for three weeks and rode him twice at Indoor Wierden for preparation. Cristel Kalf has trained him well, and I can immediately reap the benefits," said Hessel. "In the first round, he felt a bit tense, but in the jump-off, it was better, and he worked super well. He is a typical For Pleasure: he jumps in his own way, and the feeling is very good, perhaps even better than it looks. A super start to the stallion competition for us!" Another well-jumping KWPN-approved stallion finished second: No Jokes ACM (Untouchable out of Florentina elite sport-spr D-OC by Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve, breeder Annemieke van der Horst-Meeus) under co-breeder Casper Meegdes. Especially on the oxers, this patent gray showed his qualities and was only a fraction slower than the winner. The top three was completed by the AES-approved Horse Victory’s Dutch Diarado (Diarado out of Juicy Lucy’s Horse Victory D-OC by Crunch) under Joost Martens. This stallion, with a lot of technique, remained faultless in a fast time.
Fastest with misfortune
The fastest time was recorded by the KWPN-approved stallion Newmarket VM (Chacoon Blue out of Nouvelle Star Z by Numero Uno, breeder Paul van Montfort), who made a very good impression with Kars Bonhof. However, on the second-to-last obstacle, the turn was too tight, causing the rail to be touched, and the pole promptly fell. This meant a tenth-place finish today.
