Behavior inspection in Ermelo, 1988:

The stallion is very friendly, attentive, obedient, and honest with an excellent temperament. After an excellent racing career, he stood at stud for several years. He stays very relaxed during light work. He is very willing to work, and he seems to greatly enjoy his work. Upon arrival, he appeared well fed and maintained his weight throughout the test. His appetite is normal. He is quiet in his stall; however, if there is unusual activity in or outside the stabling area, he weaves for a short time. Upon arrival, a skin infection was observed on both front legs, for which he was treated.

Offspring (foals) in 1989:

The selection committee evaluated one group of randomly-selected foals and two groups of foals selected by the registered party of this Thoroughbred stallion. The foals are just sufficiently developed with riding-type conformation and nobility, but they are tight in the body. The foals should be longer-lined. In certain respects, a distinction must be made between the randomly selected foals and the foals selected by the stallion's registered party. The head of the randomly selected foals is a bit long, and several have a slightly convex profile between the eyes and little expression. The head of the foals selected by the stallion's registered party clearly has more expression and sometimes even excellent expression. The neck has sufficient length; however, several foals have an under-neck. The wither is consistently well developed with good length. The shoulder consistently has sufficient length but should be more sloped in the randomly selected foals. The topline has good muscling and strong connections. The croup has good shape and length, with excellent muscling. The front leg often needs more "bone" but is correct. The hind leg is sufficiently correct, although one foal has a long and/or slightly too bent hind leg. In general, the legs should have greater circumference. The walk is definitely good, with scope and elasticity. With respect to the trot, there is a greater difference between the randomly selected foals and those selected by the stallion's registered party. The randomly selected foals often have a short trot, and several move on the forehand. They require a rather long "start" to gain balance. In addition, hind leg use is limited, and several foals move wide behind. Nevertheless, they consistently move with obvious ease. The foals selected by the stallion's registered party have a significantly better trot. The trot shows abundant elasticity, an excellent hind leg, and effortless ability to lengthen the stride. Veterinary findings concern hock conformation in the group of randomly selected foals. In almost half of them, the hock is less correct but not significantly abnormal.



Short summary:

Just sufficiently developed, riding-type foals which should have slightly longer-lined conformation. They show nobility. Movement varies from short to scopey with abundant elasticity. Foals shown: 28 of 138 breedings.



Offspring, January 1993 (3-year-olds):

Based on the evaluation/report on Julio Mariner xx's 3-year-old offspring, the stallion has been retained for KWPN breeding.



Approval period, December 1995:

Julio Mariner xx is initially approved for three years. His jumping index (115/77%) is not extremely high, but he is at a disadvantage compared to Dutch riding-horse stallions, for which lineage information and performance test results count in the sport indexes. A Thoroughbred stallion starts with an index of 100, and only his offspring can increase that index. This is certainly the case here. Very talented offspring of this stallion have been seen in the competitions for young jumper stallions.

The evaluation of Julio Mariner's 7-year-old offspring is postponed for one year as sport results are not available as scheduled.



Offspring, January 1998 (7-year-olds):
