Performance test report
A good type that should have a little more substance. The breadth/depth relations are good. The foreleg is a little straight and tied-in, the hock is a little short.Performance Ermelo 1986 (after examination)
Friendly, obedient and honest stallion with good humor. He was saddle broke at the start of the test. He started the test later than the other stallions. He likes to go on the forehand too much and is stiff through the topline. At the start of the test he had a very difficult mouth and did not want to accept the bit. For that reason he carried a play bit a few times and this lessened the problems with his mouth. The walk is big but somewhat hurried. The walk is regular but too much on the forehand. The canter is sometimes not straight but it does have sufficient scope. His croup is too high in the canter. He is rather stiff in the back and hindquarter while jumping. He has good jumping technique and more than sufficient scope. On the course he is difficult to steer. He works well in cross-country. The gallop is not very big. He is sufficiently willing to work and finds the work normal. He has more than sufficient talent for jumping and dressage, sufficient talent for cross-country. He was in good condition upon arrival and remained that way. He ate normally and was calm in his stall.
He started on the 12th day because of a viral affliction and slight swelling of the lymph nodes. On 4/03 he got cast in his stall and hurt his right hindleg. He was treated and had a week"s rest. He had a few days off during the 7th week because of a skin condition.

Offspring report
Offspring 1988 (foals)The foals by this stallion varied both in type and development. The type varied from barely sufficient to good and the development was between sufficient and barely sufficient. In general the group of selected foals showed a little more refinement but the type was not much better than that of the picked foals. The head is plain and varies from insufficient to good. The neck is well formed and also has good length. The wither generally has sufficient length but should develop more clearly; the selected foals were better. The shoulder is practically always straight and short. The back is rather long; the loins are sufficiently muscled. The croup is generally shaped well but frequently short. The foreleg has a good stance but is often fine and the development of the knee varies. The build and stance of the hindleg are pretty good. The walk generally lacks scope and is often hurried. The trot varies; most foals appear to go into the canter rather fast. Part of the foals showed scope and suppleness, part of the foals were supple but did not move from the shoulder very much, part had both power and elasticity and a number of foals were insufficient in the trot because the hindquarter came underneath insufficiently and had limited freedom in the shoulder. Several foals moved their knee to the outside.
In short: a varied collection of foals in regards to type and development. The trotting mechanism also varied. Scope and elasticity are generally sufficient, freedom of the shoulder and use of the hindquarter leave something to be desired.
Shown: 25 foals out of 94 breedings.
Disapproved 2000
Boston definitely lost his approval on the basis of his 11-year old offspring. The already exported Boston has a jumping index of 88 (72%) and a dressage index of 101 (62%). His conformation index is 98 and 96. From these indexes it appears that the stallion does not improve on movement.
