Conformation description: Sep. 5 - Nov. 11, 2005:

Citango is a sufficiently developed riding-type stallion with strong muscling, sufficient rectangular-shaped conformation but little presence. The front leg is short. The hind leg is long and slightly angled.



Lineage information:

Citango was born in the United States and imported to the Netherlands as a foal. His sire Contango (s. Contender), who competed successfully in Grand Prix-level dressage, is renowned as a sire of numerous Grand Prix dressage horses and show jumpers, including Madorijke, New Tango, Maestro, Maroon, and Newton. Citango's dam, Rita Morka keur, was bred in the Netherlands by Huub and Tiny van Helvoirt, the 2005 KWPN Breeders of the Year. Rita Morka produced two colts, one of which advanced to the second round viewing of the KWPN stallion selection. Rita Morka is among the NA/WPN's better mares. Her dam Idamorka, who placed 2nd as a young mare in the National Mare Show, descends from the renowned Morka-line of Drenthe province.



Performance test:

Citango is an honest stallion with a good temperament. He is very willing to work and has good trainability. The walk is pure and has good scope. The trot has good scope, rhythm, and carriage. The hind leg shows good bend and steps under the body well. The canter has good scope, abundant push, and carriage. The stallion has abundant talent for dressage and gives his rider a good feeling. Citango jumps with sufficient push and form. He demonstrates sufficient body use over jumps but needs to show more bascule. Citango is careful and has sufficient scope. He shows sufficient talent as a jumper and gives his rider a sufficient feeling.



Stable behavior:

Citango is an honest and reliable stallion. He is easy on the ground and quiet in his stall.



Veterinary remarks:

No peculiarities.



Breeding recommendation:

Citango can improve the basic gaits and the hind leg. He is best bred to mares with "blood" and a long front leg.

Offspring report

Offspring (foals) in 2006:

Citango showed a uniform collection of well-developed riding-type foals with good rectangular-shaped conformation. The head is attractive. The poll varies in length. The neck has good shape and muscling with sufficient length. The wither is well developed. The shoulder has good length and placement. The back has good length but is slightly dropped. The loin is broad and well muscled, but sometimes tight. The croup has good length but is horizontal in some foals. The front leg has good length and is correct. The hind leg is mostly sickled-hocked. The pasterns are long and sometimes straight. The legs are solid and of good quality. The walk is active but should have more shoulder freedom. The trot is carried, with good body position and abundant elasticity. The hind leg steps under the body well. The canter is big and carried. Short summary: a uniform collection of well-developed riding-type foals with good rectangular-shaped conformation. The hind leg is mostly sickle-hocked. The foals move with excellent body position, elasticity, and a good hind leg. The collection included 11 foals randomly selected by the KWPN and 4 foals selected by the stallion's registered party. One of the KWPN-selected foals was absent. This foal was inspected at its home location and is consistent with the findings described in this report. One foal had therapeutic shoeing. The foals selected by the stallion's registered party are better than the KWPN-selected foals. The foals were presented on sand footing. The quality of the dams is moderate. Foals presented: 14 (+1) out of 50 mares bred in 2005. The scoring protocol used is as follows: moderate: 5; sufficient: 6; more than sufficient: 7; good: 8. Breeding recommendation, 2006: Citango can improve basic gaits and hind leg use when bred to dressage mares. He is best paired with mares which have "blood" and a long front leg.
